Never seen this craigslist response: what does OT say?

Here is my ad http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/msg/2061780141.html

Yesterday I received this:

Thanks
What's interesting about it is that in my gmail they are all grouped together in the same conversation, when typically this is reserved for emails from the same email address. While I'm 99.9% certain this is a scam (and won't be replying with anything) what are they after exactly? Just a simple phishing attempt? Doesn't read like your typical Nigerian prince scam.

This is a scam. If you do a search on the last craig's list ad, it was an almost identical response.

Leave your ad up. Have some fun with him while you're at it. Make him do some stupid shit.

I actually fully played around with one of these guys....they said they were sending me a money order 10 separate times...never received it.....still not totally sure what the point of all of it was.

EXACTLY like your email conversations, just really weird. (I gave them a BS address that's a vacant lot, and watched the 'tracking number' they gave me)

Yeah, the internet is full of hooligans these days.

I've got my 135 for sale on autotrader.com and I got an email response that told me:

Subject: You're Gay

Could you be any more Gay... gay gay gay.... hahhahhhlOLOLOL.

Glad I'm paying for this kind of exposure. Pretty sweet.

Noticed that too. That plus being out of town = scam, like I said. Just seems like a weird and inefficient way to collect information however...if that's in fact all they're doing...

I couldn't agree with you more... especially since there are so many more elegant ways of doing it these days. Spoofed email addresses with 99.9% accurate HTML email messages, etc. Maybe people are caught off guard with now simple this type of information mining is therefore they don't think it could be a scam?

But, labor is cheap almost everywhere else besides America.... And 85-90% of the American population is stupid so there is your reasoning.

Apparantly it's still working to some degree if they are still attempting to gather info like this (litterally 10 years later).

They send you a fake money order which you take to your bank and deposit, if the teller doesn't catch it then it posts to your account, you send the item on someones hijacked UPS/FedEx account which they give you and a week or so later your bank sends you a letter saying that it was a fake money order and they take the money back.

They used to do it with checks too, usually business checks.

I used to have fun with them and have them make out checks to famous people, they would send them and then I was told that they were using other peoples UPS/FedEx accounts to ship the checks and felt bad and stopped doing it.

Assistant at work. Not a personal assistants who checks under his balls for leftovers after he wipes.

But he also doesn't answer the ads with "my assistant will mail you a check for $213234513452345 dollars for your $17 worth of baseball trading cards".

I love these email, i like messing with them and going down the pathand collecting fake checks they will send you which is usually send via FedEx. So it cost them money and they get all pissy when you refuse to send them money back since the check are made out to be more then what you are asking since that screw up assistant can not seem to issue a check for the correct amount.

Grant it there are some guys who will go as far as shipping them junk in a box, i can not bother to go that far, but hell I do have some junk laying around my house which would be worth send to these scamers.
