Thank you Seattle

TL;DR a series of unfortunate events

Funny enough it wasn't even a road accident. I was installing the headlights you see in the pic. I was working on it at my Dad’s place and left it there to go to work; I planned on finishing it up when I got back. Dad being the loving caring soul that he is took it upon himself to do finish it before I got off work. Well..
•Didn't put the saddle back on when he lifted it at the center jack point
•Didn't put down jackstands (they were occupied by my best friends 325 lol)
•Didn't put wheels under car
•This was all in gravel
•My ebrake is non existent (previous owner didn't reinstall it during a brake job, woohoo)

LUCKILY he was in the garage having a beer when this happened or this accident would have been much more severe... Car slipped off the jack and landed straight on the harmonic balancer. In the process, the jack tore through:
•lower coolant hose
•radiator fan
•bent radiator
•intake shroud
•AC line
•other misc parts

After a few months of replacing everything I was very excited to test drive it when something didn't sound quite right. I forgot what it was as it wasn't related to what I found looking for it. Turns out it bent the harmonic balancer, it was shaking like CRAZY. Back to work. Replaced harmonic balancer, added crank seal guard. Started her up. Nope, same issue. This time the crank hub was now destroying my beautiful crank guard. The crank bolt. Its bent. Shit. Looked up how to replace it, not in my skillset. Replacing requires retiming. Get a quote from a guy that works on these all day every day. Little expensive.. Get a quote for an engine replacement. Labor is about the same. Order a 99k mile 2009 n52 (updated cylinder head) from eBay. Have the guy do a full refresh on seals. Replace and refresh the transmission too since it was very much in its way out. Both of which I took meticulous research to. Bought car faxs for every engine/transmission I looked at to make sure they had a good history. These two were ideal. Ironically both are from E60s from New Jersey. Finally get it back 6 months later. Drive it for a month and a half (1700ish miles). Get the worst sound Ive ever heard (picture dull drill bit into a plate of steel) and a CEL for code 2A87 while on a date. Check oil under oil filter. Its this beautiful metallic brown. Ffs. The damage is done, the tow truck is 3 hours away and its midnight. I'm 10 minutes from home. Try to limp it home (as the sound/CEL wasnt constant), get a couple miles down the road and it does it again. Call my best friend with the 325, what a guy. I woke him up, he got out of bed and came to the rescue. Not much we can do in a Statefarm parking lot at what is now 1AM, so I sent it. Drove like a bat out of hell all the way home, keeping the RPMs up in the event that oil pressure was an issue. Check oil filter, there is a TON of debris and what looks like SAND and some gray flakes. Great. Never buying a junkyard engine on ebay ever again. Another 6 months have passed. We've replaced both Vanos solenoids, cam sensors, eccentric shaft sensor, cleaned vanos check valves, replaced vanos gear bolts, and while we were in there.. Installed MILVS and a freshly cerakoted valve cover. This brings me to today. Have driven it for about 200 miles now with no issues on some sacrificial oil. Just did the oil change on Thanksgiving and this is what I found: black material on magnetic drain plug. A lot for 180miles imo.. Could be residual from previous oil. Still some debris in oil filter (did run Liqui Moly engine flush) but was delighted to see the oil wasn't dark. As far as carbon buildup goes the engine was perfect. Unfortunately thats what I seen a couple more gray flakes, and some bright silver colored slivers. Added Liqui Moly Molygen 5w40 like always, as well as Ceratec (of which I said I would never use again after the last time I used it on my old engine - the oil level sensor started throwing codes). Figured it was on its way out anyways. So, in an effort to reduce friction, added it to the new engine with its new oil level sensor. It threw a code lol. Hasnt came back since I cleared it though which is good. Also noticed the line from my catch can to intake was kinked causing pressure buildup in the crank case. Now running vent to atmosphere from here on out. Still sounds like theres some metal on metal wear in the engine (from the back this time not the front) so I'm hoping what I'm hearing is the lack of a cabin air filter housing sealing to the hood. Did the M3 mod for that if you're curious. Anyway, thats how she sits right now. Waiting on a blackstone report for the original oil. Will continue to drive her till she throws a rod. Oh- and yes I still have my old engine which should in theory be fine. I'll rebuild it as a spare

You cannot make this kind of stuff up....

Such an incredible sequence of events that = madness.

Bless your dad for trying to help you out - who would have thought??

The history with this car even before then surely adds to my attachment. Way too many memories and work has gone into it for it to ever be feasible to let it go. And yeah he's awesome! I felt bad for being mad at him.

Always admired these rims…. Not so much with ride height but it will help out parking lots with curb markers.

Yes, I looked it over pretty carefully and I didn't see any issues. I'll let it cure for a month before handwashing and 90 days before ceramic coating for protection.
