We use a Cable Card enabled network TV tuner (like one you would install in the computer from Hauppauge or whatever) but it's hooked into your home network and is detected as a network hardware device that you install drivers on your PC for. That's the "cable box" and WMC is the front end for it. So think of the network tuner as the physical cable box and WMC as the software installed on the cable box that delivers the interface to you TV. The best example of what we use that is actually used right now in a set top box is U-Verse. U-Verse is WMC installed on a cable box. For remote control, I just use the old WMC remotes w/ IR receiver that hooks into the computer via USB.

I upgraded from 7 to 10 and within a couple days I was back to W7.
W10 felt like the same thing as windows 7 except less intuitive and designed to spy on and use you. Also packed with tons of "features" that I don't want or need and will never use. I will stick with windows 7 until it becomes obsolete as I feel as though it is the modern day windows XP. However, I would rather have W10 than W8.

Went from 7 to 10 and received the blue screen error, and hard drive failed. Too used to 7 Ultimate 64-bit, love it too much. But the DirectX 12 being in windows 10 would be nice for future games when compatible.

I have Windows 7 on my desktop and Windows 10 on my laptop. I must say that i like Windows 7 better if not for anything but the familiar feel of it. Windows 10 can be pretty confusing for anyone who has been using Windows 7.

I tried it twice on an older computer, once when it first came out and once a month ago or so. It ran smoothly, then video and sound drivers quit working. I didn't want to spend the money to upgrade those components, so reverted back to Win7. It's a shame, I really liked Win10. I'd install it again if I were using my PC more than my Mac.

Stick with 8.1 here and it runs just perfect for me..So why should I upgrade into troubles with 10 after reading only downsides of 10 ?

I upgraded to Windows 10 from 7 and I regret it. The whole User Interface is dumbed-down for cellphone and tablet users (especially if by accident you run the damn thing in tablet mode which is all too easy). Windows 7 was the best by far because it was tailored specifically for PC and nothing else. Windows 8 and to a lesser degree Windows 10 try to be everything on every Microsoft platform and therefore contain too many compromises and watered-down features.

Loved Windows 7, and am running 8.1 on a laptop. Don't mind it. But I keep getting DAILY reminders popping up on my machine saying that I need to upgrade. Any way to turn that off? Quite annoying.

I was on 7 (pro?), but hit the update button by mistake after resetting the timer a few times. This is on my T440S.
No noticeable difference in performance and for someone who HATES 8, I haven't had too much trouble grasping 10. Had one printer issue, but I deleted and reinstalled the printer which solved that. Probably a driver issue. If they offer a free 8 to 10 upgrade I'll do it for my desktop. 7 to 10, I wouldn't do it given the chance 8 to 10, I would do in a heartbeat. |

So I just bought a new PC, and it came with Windows 10. Immediately took out the HD and installed Wind 7 Pro on a separate hard drive. Ran it for a bit, but started thinking twice about it. Now I'm back on Windows 10 and am actually enjoying it. It's the Home version, so I bought Windows 10 Pro and will install that once I receive it.

I'm trying to decide--only a few weeks to get it for free. My primary computer is eligible for the free upgrade. Seems like the opinions here are mixed.

I was on the fence also. I was always on Windows 7 Pro and never had any complaints. Bought Windows 8.1 and had that one a laptop for a while, never could get into it. Our company switched over to Windows 10 Pro and I got hooked. Then upgraded the home PCs to Windows 10 Pro as well. Cannot imagine going back to Windows 7 now. Would feel like I'm going back in time!

W7Ultimate rocks, no need to change the OS, as long as MS supports it. Then next thinkings, not earlier. I would never change a running system just because the next OS is dropped for free...

Thats what I mean, as long as the updates are coming, its absolutely ok to stay at W7. Ask me in 3,5 years again, to what kind of OS I would change

What I notice is most of the time security updates fail to install..this has been happening for a while.
