Las Vegas next week! Enlighten of what I should do.

Next week I will be going to Las Vegas for 4 nights along with my girlfriend an her parents. Sounds lame right, her parents are actually really cool, we have different room on different floors for "privacy". So peeps that have been to Vegas Enlighten me what I have to do and some neat things to look at.

So far I know we are going to some sort of show, the hoover dam, and a lot of drinking and gambling, I am excited.

Valley of Fire State Park is about an hour from Vegas. This is the first of many amazing sights in the park. The pano here is a link to the full size version (which is very large). But if you go, be aware that there is no food available in the park. Bring lunch. Very cool place, though. And if you drive through the park to the other end, take a right and follow an amazing road along the north shore of Lake Mead back to Vegas.

Well, maybe not the pool. Temps in the 50's in Vegas next week.

And skip the helicopter tours.

That looks sweet! Speaking of photography, I am bringing my trusty D7000 with a 12-24 and 35mm 1.8. Think I should bring some thing else?

Longest lens I brought was a 24-105. I only missed the telephoto lens once, and that was because I saw a great shot of a hawk. Otherwise, wider is better. Much better. That 12-24 will be glued to your camera outside Vegas. And the 35mm will work great in town. Pack a tripod and get some night pics. And if you've never been to the Venetian, go there and walk along the canals and shops. Pretty cool.

Also, if you and the fam are meat eaters, this place is heaven on earth. Endless and varied meat courses.

Do it.

They're cheap, the view is spectacular and flying in helicopters is a blast. Try to get an up front seat or at least make sure you're on a window. The middle seat sucks...lol.

If you want to dedicate a day to it, Death Valley is about 3 hours away. Maybe 2-1/2 depending on your route. It's pretty impressive, but you will burn up a whole day seeing it. We left about 9AM and got back about 8PM.

if this is ur first time in vegas, just see all the free hotel stuff. It can take 2 days.

mandalay has a nice aquarium in lobby (u pay for shark reef)
Luxor has its shape and some museum inside 2nd floor
MGM grand has lions in a glass cage, also some garden area
Monte carlo u can skip
ballys u can skip.
Paris has the tower (small fee to go up, but good view of hte city)
City center has a whole mall area to check out
Cosmo has a neat bar area
Bellagio has a grand lobby and Garden
Flamingo has a bird area
Ceasars has a big mall
Mirage has a volcano/dolphins?
Treasure Island has a pirate show (singing at stuff)
venetian has a water way through the hotel
wynn/encore just looks nice.

try either Wynn or Bellagio buffet for dinner. if u want to be cheap you go in at the lunch price and wait for them to change stuff out. 30 mins prior to dinner time or so.

if you want to do nature theres a red rock canyon drive or mount charelston

the hoover dam will take 1/2 a day with driving and looking around.

You can definitely get some good deals I stayed at circus circus for like $20 a night it's a decent hotel and on the strip.

Check out the stratosphere while in Vegas it's the only place I know of that has rides 1000 ft in the air.

Cheap fun down on Fremont. That's where me and wifey always end up.

mess with the Mexicans flipping the hooker cards at you (you'll know what I mean when you get there)

Walk through Ceasar's from lobby all the way through the Shops...

Bellagio water show every half hour (you'll hear a bell tolling right before one starts)

Blue Man Group was an awesome show. If you do any shows check out the places that have "Half Price TIckets". They might not be half price, but good deals. Also good deals on dining. We bought a dinner-for-2 at the diner atop Stratosphere for $100. The view is awesome. It revolves, I think they said 1 revolution a half hour, maybe hour. You have to take the elevators...awesome IMO. You go up 109 floors in like 15 seconds and you don't feel a thing, not even your ears pop.

Gambling-wise, I prefer Fremont, just because I'm broke and cheap. Fremont Experience is pretty cool though too. Lights cover the Fremont Street (walking only) and they have a cool little light show every hour. Binion's craps are my favorite though Main Street Station was fun too. But again, I'm poor and cheap so can't afford $10/15 craps/roulette/blackjack.

Go to New York New York and cross the bridge over to MGM and take some pictures down the strip. That's a cool site.

Now I want to be in Vegas, thanks. lol HAVE FUN

and remember ALWAYS get the extra shot (you'll know I'm talking about if you go to Fremont or any Fat Tuesday)

I have no idea why people think Vegas is fun for young people. It's a place to go out and check out but that's about it... unless you are into gambling or have an overload of money that you are itching to lose; there is almost nothing fun in Las Vegas itself. The shows are mainly geared for a much older crowd; as are all of the late night attractions and the Casinos are worth spending time in only if you are well established with a ton of money and are into game playing... otherwise there is so many other interesting places to go. I went there about 3 years ago and then drove to LA and had about 3-4 x as much fun there.

Since you are going with your girlfriend; I recommend checking out the sights more than anything such as the Hoover dam and maybe the Grand Canyon because Vegas itself IMHO is somewhat of a disappointment. There is also a really cool Mall with a little canal flowing through it although I can't remember the name.
