Ha, you guys don't know what unreliable is unless you owned some of Detroits most imfamous products from the 70s. We had a Chevy Monza that - among the ceaseless list of things - once had a door just fall off. The English also set records around the same time for sheer crap which is also why they are largely extinct or foriegn owned. Today's cars are significantly better made than back in those days. For one thing they are much less likely to kill you.

My first E46 323i was pretty reliable, definitely the best car I've owned. Too bad I only had it for 13 days. :/
But my current E46 is by far the most unreliable, the PO didn't care for it all, and I learned that the hard way 3 months after purchasing, it was a heap, I have entirely too much money into it now. Last edited by Kielan; 10-26-2012 at 12:47 PM. |

My 335is for sure! My E36/E46 M3 were 10000000x more reliable.
2001 VW GTi... piece of junk. it loved to blow MAF's on a daily basis. Porsche GT3 and 930 I had were a dream. Beat the crap out of the GT3 on the track and asked for more. Bmw is going down hill on reliablity now. Makes me sad ![]() |

2010 VW Jetta TDI (Wagon). 22k catastrophic fuel pump failure on hwy. no warning. BS defect. $7k-$10k of repairs. Traded it that weekdn we got it back for a gas C300. KISS. Keep it simple stupid (VW).

This is the most fun I ever had driving a car. I got more compliments on this one by far than any other car I have ever owned but it was the most unreliable piece of $hit ever.

Out of the 30+ used cars I've owned (mostly japanese) never had any I considered unrealiable but have had some bad luck with a few.
87 Toyota MR2 Automatic GT (rare) trans went out at 55K miles a month after I bought it. Had it rebuilt a month later the engine blew up so I swapped it out and it ran with no issues for the next 4 years. 2000 Tundra trans started slipping at 58K miles. 97 Del Sol AC compressor went out at 37K miles dealer wouldn't fix it under warranty so I got pissed and traded it. Surprisingly out of all the nice cars the most reliable was a 2004 Saturn SC1 with 85HP. Hated the car but beat the living crap out of that car for over 100K miles and other than using oil on a regular basis it was indestructible. Even ran it into several guard rails and 2 trees finally to create enough damage to total it out so I could claim my gap insurance to cover the extra costs of shady used car sales.

I don't mind spending the money maintaining my M3 (out of warranty) as its my dream car. Eventually, I want to get a reliable DD that's not as boring as toothpaste.
A truck like the Tundra, which I would have expected to be rock solid, according to at least 2 people here said they aren't. So with all that said, any ideas? I'm thinking the only way to go nowadays is just going with a car with a warranty ![]()

Unfortunately I'd do it again if I had to. Shady dealer sold my a car for a certain price and payment and 3 days later called me and told me that bank denied me but they had another bank that would approve me. When I got there to sign the papers I noticed the rate was alot worse so I said no and I was notified that my trade in was already take to the auction and sold that I didn't have a choice. With all the extra crap they tacked on if I would have paid it in full it was going to cost me 14K for a 6500 used car. After paying on it for 3 years I found I still owed 7300 left so I decided I wasn't going to pay another dime on a car that had 120K that was starting to have issues.
And yeah I know now I could have taken advantage of that situation but at the time I didn't know any better as it was 15 years ago.
