Question Where Do You Guys Buy Suits For Work?

where do you guys buy suites for work? im not looking to spend a fortune on a custom tailored piece but i do need a few, especially 1 for this wed for an interview at bmw na for summer internship .

i do need a full set: jacket, tie, shoes, belt, pants, socks?, & shirt. not looking for anything cheap but quality pieces. how is men's warehouse?

brooks brothers has a deal for 2 suits for $300 each, not sure if that is good or not. no clue what is a good price range is for this department of clothing.

i know some guys spend a fortune on cuff links which i honestly don't know why...

as always, looking foward to your replies , thanks guys.

That's not bad for Brooks Brothers. TBH Men's Warehouse is plenty acceptable and while they are on average on the lower end as far as suiting goes, that doesn't mean it's POS quality either. Look into Hart Shaffner Marx for good quality for the price, MH carries those and I have 2 which are great for what I need them for. I'm not fooling anyone into thinking I'm wearing a $5,000 suit, but in a room full of people wearing suits, you won't look out of place in the least (provided the rest of your wardrobe is in order too)

Don't skimp on shoes. Nothing makes you more uncomfortable than ill-fitting shoes. Get something quality that will last (rebuildable) and that you won't be dying to take off after wearing for 10-12 hours. I have a pair of Allen Edmonds which I love.

+1 on the Edmonds... I have a pair.

They are a little stiff at first, but dont let this fool you.... once you break them in they practically form fit to your feet.
And theyre CLASSIC.. as long as you keep them up.. youll be wearing them for some time

The suites at Express are my favorite, just because of the fit. Price isn't to crazy but they always go on sale.

i think my hush puppies and ecco are very comf, but i dont think they make the style for suites?

any other stores you guys recommend? nordstorm? how are hugo boss and diesal? i have no idea on any of this stuff and this is my first official, if you will, suite purchase .

do you guys rock the fitted, kinda tight style suit with a nice tucked shirt and no belt like the guys from nip/tuck ?

express has suites? i just got x2 coupons from them the other day spend over $100 get $30 off and i forgot the other one...

You'll start spending money if you go to nordstroms. But check out MWH and the all the department stores. Chances are though you'll start looking at $1k+ suits at most of the department stores unless theres a great sale.

YMMV but when I shopped Nordstrom for suits comparable ones were more than MWH and the salesman was pretty bad...could've just been the store/time...though it seems the guys at MWH are a lot more open and willing to "explain" things to newbs (which I half was half wasn't)...again just my experience.

Trendy suits are gimmicky IMO, there are a few classic styles with some modern interpretations (such as non-pleated pants) that will hold up well but, especially considering this is your first suit and is primarily for business, keep it VERSATILE. Buy a Navy and a Charcoal, which both go well with many different shirt/tie combos, as well as black and brown shoes. I wouldn't buy a black suit for work. Assuming you're entry level, dressing cocky isn't really going to get you anywhere so keep that in mind. When in doubt, defer to a more understated/conservative/traditional look rather than something you might think "looks cool"

^ nice, im actually pretty nervous for the interview. i see my guy that got me in bmw na on monday at the gym so imma ask him about the interviewer and what questions i can expect.

what combos do you think i need to work 4-5 days of the week to switch off? 3 pants?, 5 shirts?, ties?, jackets?

colin, shopping for a suite for you must be a bitch no? don't you need everything custom fit due to your height?

probably 3 suits (jacket and pants stay together), 3-4 white shirts, 2-3 blue shirts, a "interesting" shirt (cream, yellow...something for fridays)...lots of ties that go with everything so it's not a huge pain to put together each morning...you can basically end up with with a system of pick any suit, any shirt, any tie, and you'll be good to go. The salesmen should be able to help you out, but be careful as being salesmen they can get away with wearing flashier stuff than professionals would, so stick with understated patterns and simple/inoffensive color combinations...a red tie with some small blue squares on it may be perfectly acceptable while a bright red/blue/white bold striped tie should be left to parties and weddings. You want colleagues to not notice your attire either way in essence, that is you don't want to look cheap/underdressed nor do you want to look like you're grabbing for attention and flashy.

Brooks brothers or nordstroms will be ideal for you. Personally I wear custom tailored.

I mean MWH = mens warehouse...and yeah used YMMV in the sense that my experience at Nordstrom may simply be my isolated experience. MWH does carry Hart Shaffner Marx (a brand, not a store) for less than Nordstrom though...and hell...it's good enough for the president

I got my $1100 Burberry suit at Saks for $410 after tax. It's a great suit and the price was hard to beat. Saks has a lot of really good deals all year.

o shit really? at $410 after tax you really can't go wrong. as mentioned earlier the x2 bb suites are $300 but does not include tax so for a burberry that is a steal. i will sure check that out as well. did you pay just for the suite as in pants, jacket, and shirt?

Lol I got a pair of cufflinks from Banana Republic for like $50 (well $25 after my sister's employee discount)....leave the ostentatious stuff to the people who can back it up...I personally don't feel comfortable wearing super flashy shit anyway...stick with button cuffs for work anyway

MWH is the usual place to go to. However, there are many other good places like Macy's (when I was shopping for suits a while back they had some sale going on and there were some Hugo Boss suits for about $300). I ended up buying 2 suits at MWH which I later regret (shoulda went with the Hugo ones lol).

Express is also a good place. Their suits are expensive when not on sale though. I checked some out last week and liked them but they were a little too much for me. You can also try Jos A. Bank (spelling?), Nordstrom, and maybe even Sears.

PS- one last note is to be sure to buy a suit (or suits) that are okay for work as well as semi-formal events. You don't wanna buy a flashy suit for work. That would look tacky IMO.

Amazing shirts too...usually the 1k suits are down to 250 or 500 and they are nice wool suits.
