what is this facial expression?

What is this facial expression?
I find myself doing this all the time.. mostly with the security/reception/cleaning people where I live. Why do I do this?

Aha I do it to people all the time. In my mind, it's kind of a smile, but in all honestly could give to shits about that person I'm giving it to, and just don't want to seem like a jackass =/

I think that it's Racist as fuck... the image.

But also the Tight lipped smile nervous white people make... It means "you scare me, but I bear you no hatred."

A BMW is Just a Car, it doesn't make you smart, handsome, cool, or wealthy. Get over it.

It's the face that goes along with a polite nod and I do it all the time. It lets the other person know that you are not ignoring them - in other words, a slight but polite acknowledgement.

I dunno what it means to different people, the intent is not racist (it's a meme going around)

But I just found I do this .. I am uncomfortable around service people who are beholden to you in some way? Am I being too class-sensitive? (Wage inequalities are high in H.K. I don't know I feel sorry for them? Or I don't feel I deserve to be waited on? I could never live with a live-in domestic helper as most middle-class people here do etc.)

Some people do the nodding thing.. I find it easier to pretend not to see each other.. there no problem!
