***HELP, cannot replace stock INTAKE***

Okay, this is for anyone that has either done the "silencer" delete mod, and/or the charcoal filter delete mod.

I removed the charcoal filter and now i cant get the actual intake back on.

It all started when i couldnt get the hose to connect to where the intake hole is. it is a very very tight fit and i doubt anyone who did this charcoal delete mod truly/completely refitted their intake hose onto the intake. it has to go all the way back on and it snaps into place due to the shape.

after attempting to do this by pulling on the hose and getting it to fit for an hour, i gave up, and i removed the hose from the other side, and then within 5 minutes i could get the leverage i needed to connect the hose back onto the intake. but now i cannot connect the other end of the hose back to the engine.

How did you guys reconnect this part. Either by the method of connecting the hose to the intake, and then to the engine. or just leaving the hose connected to the engine and then connecting the intake to the hole. Seems impossible to do either way for me.

This was of course, all accomplished in an open area parking lot when it was 0 degrees F. I need help since now i cant drive my car!! Someone please help.

there is a little Hump on the bottom, make sure that is lined up........umm i dunno what to tell you....worst comes to worst, heat up the rubber, maybe becuase of the cold, it cant expand to fit snug on the engine part....wish i could go over there to help you out.

I realize he's in a f**king parking lot, it is not clear whether it is next to his condo or in the middle of a 40 acre mall parking lot. If it is the latter I fear he'll have to call a flatbed and bring it somewhere warm to finish this mod....I did mine in warmer fall weather and had no problems getting it back together...although I have a 325 and that may be a different intake.

Back in the early 80s I tried installing new sheetmetal under the passenger side floor of my 1973 Checy C-10 pickup. It was very cold out, and i had never done that kind of thing before.....damn well froze my hands off, and cripes...metal doesn't bend nor cut so good when it's really cold out!!

its cool guys. im a student so i live in an apartment complex. goes to say there are no plugs around as im in the middle of a parking lot looking like a fool. i guess ill just plug in the MAF sensor and maybe bring it to a dealer to try to get the darn hose back on.

if you take it to the dealer, they will ask you why you had the intake off. have you removed the charcoal filter already? Just look at it in the am when you have daylight.

dude, have a buddy come with his car, get a converter so his car cig lighter can connect an AC-DC (or was it viceversa?) and jkust plug a blowdryer to it! try that out!

thanks for the support guys. yea i have to admit, i think im totally capable of doing it if not in the weather conditions. chesmu, ive already done the charcoal filter removal, but i didnt plan on telling them why my intake was loose. the reason actually i did the entire thing was as mds may have hinted, i had a simota intake that didnt fit on the 330xi (it fits every other e90) and i had to remove that intake and put the stock back in. before i put it back in i figured i would do the charcoal filter removal. i didnt forsee it would be so hard to fit back the intake hose and that it would be so painfully cold in the weather.

WHen you use a power inverter with your car you have to make sure the wattage is sufficient to handle a blow dryer.....

Hey,I just went through the same thing this weekend; I just took my stock box apart to clear out sand, leaves and crap and check the filter.

It's not entirely clear what you're having problems with, but I'll give you what worked for me.

1. Connect the MAF side first so you can move the airbox around.
2. Getting the hose to the MAF side seated. Get some work gloves, work your hand around the side closest to the engine block and give it a good yank. It'll seat itself with a good thunk.
3. Getting the other side seated; the side closest to the front of the car. If you reach under that connection on the airbox you'll probably notice that it's buldged out, and not seated here when it is on top. That's because if you look under the airbox there's actually a little lip that the hose is supposed to tuck into and not go over. Slide the bottom side into that L shaped lip, and then work the top side. Use a long standard screw driver to give you a little leverage and it'll pop right on. A lot easier than when you were trying to get it on while it was over the L shaped lip.

Hard to describe, but if you look it's obvious. I spent a good 10min trying to figure out why that part of the hose wouldn't slip on.

The MAF side is just brute force, but it will eventually go on. Just make sure you've got gloves because the metal hose clamp will cut you up pretty bad.

I think your main problem is the weather and location. If you can't see what you're doing or feel your own fingers, that presents a problem.

Getting the hose back onto the throttle body might be more difficult than getting the MAF sensor end hose in. Go back one step, attach the hose to the throttle body assembly, you can always loosen the air intake housing too. That way you can adjust the angle better. In the last step, put the air intake housing back in place and bolt it down.

Dude, you are all over the forum. Look, this is just a thought. Make sure you did not flip the end and try to connect the wrong end. That could be your problem since you been stuck for so long on this and might be frustrated and might have accidentally flip the tube and trying to connect in the wrong end since you mention all the tubes are disconnected.
