Take 6: Vishnu does Canada

Hi guys,
Just a quick heads up. I'm up here in Canuck land tuning a couple of bone stock 335is. It's cold up here. But at least they have good gas (94oct, not the 91oct squirrel pee we get in California). So far, we just finished one car. It baselined at 269whp and 280lbfts of torque. After the Xede was installed and tuned, it made.. get ready for this...

330whp and 365lb-ft of torque

This was with the factory exhaust system. The only mod is the XEDE. Boost is 10-11psi. Dyno sheets to come soon (as soon as I get access to a scanner).

Another car is being strapped to the dyno right now. Gotta go...

Cheers,
shiv

Wow, is that just a result of the difference in octane? 61 whp and 85 ftlb of torque...that's impressive. Is it possible to have two seperate maps, one for Cali gas and one for 94 octane in Canada? I'm only down here for another 3 or so years and it would be nice to have that option.

VERY NICE! Remember everyone... this is a different dyno. Shiv always said his dyno reads low. So hopefully these are closer to reg dyno numbers... if so they are FSCKING AMAZING! Great work shiv. I cant wait to see a 93 oct tune with exhaust. INSANE!!!! Major props to shiv. Once the exhaust kits are ready I really want to setup a houston meet. I want as much power as possible (ie exhaust) so I guess ill have to wait till jan.

Shiv,

Can you give us some technical information on why you think it is making such huge power? Is it just the octane (and maybe the cold)? The Stg 1 map you did for sam has less power... I am a huge newbie to FI is this all caused by the oct/temp (and different dyno)? Thanks for all the help!

When you get back to CA do you think you could put your car on a different dyno... someone elses dynojet etc. I would love to see how it compares. Thanks!!!

Great job again shiv!

Are you bringing any 100 octane? I can't wait to see the results on some race gas.

So these are basically the same as or better than the HP and torque levels you would see on an e46 M3? Good Lord.......

dmboone - These are WAAAAAAAY better then a e46 m3. The stock 335i makes about the same wheel HP and better wheel torque then the e46 m3. With the XEDE/exhaust... we are closer to m5 performance.

Bloody hell... everytime I read things like this I wish I waited for a 335xi. But in reality I only say this here, when I get back behind the wheel I return to being perfectly content each and every time with my 330xi

Still, I can only hope that someone will offer something one day for the 330 that offers a reasonably substantial power increase without breaking the bank. Shiv's 335 tuning is incredibly good value for the money.

Update:
Just tuned the other 335i. In stock form it put down 275whp and 290lbft of torque. After it was tuned, it put down 321whp and 365lb-ft of torque. What is interesting is that it made nearly that power with the map from the previous car. In other words, custom tuning was only worth 3-4whp which bodes well for mail-ordered XEDEs. Max power was 331whp but that was at 12-13psi. We played it somewhat conservative and kept boost in the 10-11psi range.

I'll post up graphs tomorrow when I get home.

Cheers,
shiv

Holy shiit, that's some serious powa
How much race fuel would I need to add to Cali 91 to get these results?
I suppose 3 gallons 100 Octane for every 7 gallons 91 would get you pretty close.

Hi Matt,
The octane is largely responsible for the big gains. The 91oct we get in California is awful. Far worse than the 91oct you guys get in other parts of the country. And your 93? Forget about it. It's like race gas to us For this reason alone, we'll be offering 91, 93-94 and 100oct maps for both Stg 0 (Xede only) and Stage 1 (Xede plus exhaust). The dyno we used today is calibrated to read much like the dynojet we've been using. A quick look at the baseline stock numbers of 269-275whp shows that it's in-line with our previous results. But yeah, octane plays a huge role in acheivalbe power when it comes to turbocharged engines. 80lbft of torque and 60whp isn't anything to sneeze at! Those are the kind of gains us 91oct folks can only get with an Xede and an exhaust. But at least our weather is a million times better

On a 100oct map, I wouldn't expect anything less than 400lbft and 370hp at the wheels. Now THAT would be fun.

cheers,
shiv

Shiv Im really glad to hear about the minimal differences in custom tuning. I know you said this will come with a few (3) different map setups. Im curious if you forsee this being the same thing once other mods are installed; Exhaust, intake, downpipes, etc. How will this work on upgrading maps when upgrading mods?

Hi-- Yes, we will offer maps for others mods as well (as they come out and are proven to actually work). The Xede can hold 2 maps at a time which makes toggling back and forth between a pump gas map and a race gas/valet/stock map really easy.

great stuff shiv, this is really good news I am thinking myself lucky to have 97-98 RON fuel here, which I think is equivilent to 93-94 in US units?
I will wait with great anticipation for the next installment..
I would live to see what this car will do with a chargecooler or bigger intercooler, the stock one looks a bit small to me...(especially with Xede)
