Well there's no shotgun thread and pretty much everything gun-related goes in here anyway . . . so here is the Remington 870 Tactical I picked up today at the gun show. It was being offered at a great price and I couldn't pass it up:

Damn son! Can you list everything that you have added (and the cost)?

This is all I was really contemplating at the time:

Regarding your point about why the XDs have 0 LE contracts - I have read that the grip safety is one of the biggest obstacles that prevents their selection. Wounded officers must be able to manipulate their pistols one-handed (including one-handed with the weak hand). Having the grip safety doesn't make one-handed manipulation impossible, but it does make it more difficult certainly because it REQUIRES a particular grip on the pistol to make it operable.

The other reason that prevents LE agencies from choosing them (XDs) is the cost. For whatever reason, even though the XDs are priced similarly to Glocks with respect to civilian sales, I think Glock and S&W pretty much give their pistols away to LE.

Further, the fact that you have never had a problem with your XDs but you've had issues with Glocks doesn't really prove anything about either platform (not trying to sound like a dick when I say that but it kind of reads that way haha). Nonetheless, I'm glad your XDs have run well for you!

Circling back to really the most significant point - pistol selection comes down to personal preference. You don't like Glocks and there are thousands of others that are right there with you. They choose instead 1911s, M&Ps (which are quite nice, I must say), Sigs, or XDs. I've had Glocks and M&Ps and like them both just fine but I slightly prefer the Glock because my first M&P 9 had to have the barrel and striker assembly replaced (I sold it but later picked up an M&P 9 Shield).

I never cared for the XD because of the grip safety, tall slide/higher bore axis, and I just think they are plain ugly as sin. My Glocks are ugly too.

At the end of the day, I feel that responsible armed citizens are on the same team. I wasn't trying to shi* on his (i.e., Collins) purchase.

But he asked me how he did, so I responded . . . honestly.

P.S. - I'm not a Glock fanboy by any means. I own the following pistols:

- Glock 23
- Glock 26
- Walther PPQ
- Sig P229
- HK45C
- S&W M&P 9 Shield

I just like to shoot pistols that: 1) I can shoot proficiently with and 2) Have good reputations.
I may be wrong, but the grip safety only prevents pulling back the slide. If the gun is loaded, which I assume LEO's are, they would just pull the trigger.

edit: I'm wrong, took a closer look.

At first I was like and then I saw the edit and .

But also, did you think of this: What happens if you're injured in a firefight and you have to reload the pistol and rack the slide with one hand? It can be easier to lock the rear sight on the ground, etc. and pull it back without making sure your hand is also depressing the grip safety.

You shoot her yet?

haha you can pull the trigger all the way back without the grip safety, but it still doesn't shoot

Not yet, just shot the range one. I may wait until they get the mag extension for it in the store this week.

Well mine isn't an 870, its a 500, very similar and most of the parts are pretty interchangeable between the two (I think), but if not you can't find things like mine around the same price range. Here is a list of all the stuff I have, got it all from amazon.

Forend-
http://www.amazon.com/Ergo-Shotgun-F...8784234&sr=8-1

Foregrip-
http://www.amazon.com/Generation-Tac...8784360&sr=8-5

Buttstock with shell holders-
http://www.amazon.com/Mossberg-Gauge...8784447&sr=8-1

Laser/flashlight combo-
http://www.amazon.com/UTG-Tactical-L...8784492&sr=8-1

The door breaching barrel on mine came with the gun, it was a certain model that came with it and bought it for that reason. Here's a vid of me unloading 5 slugs through it, this gun is such a blast to shoot.

I misread what you were saying about LE. And I thought you were basing your dislike of XDs on the fact that LE doesn't carry them. I just re-read and you were saying that LE doesn't have them because of the grip safety. And my comparisons with my Glocks... I was just trying to say that I didn't have quite the problems I had with my XDs... nothing more. I don't hate Glocks. I just like my XDs better because they feel better.

Heh... not even a month later after buying my 1911, I am now buying an S&W M&P 9mil "for girlfriend" and Mossberg 930 Waterfowl to shoot trap.

Went to a gun show last week. Got to shoot both things mentioned above, bunch of other shit and a .50 cal Barrett M82A1. Holy shit. That thing is insane.

On the other note, the sights on my 1911 (Remington R1E) are waaaaay off. I bought some nylon sight punches, but the sights don't move. Have to either take it to a gunsmith, or just buy the tool and do it myself.

Sounds like a way better gun show then we have in California. Those Barretts are badass.

I am interested in the M&P shield, not on the CA approved list yet but it should be. I got to shoot my father-in-laws M&P and I liked it...because it reminded me of a Glock but the Shield is different enough from Glocks offerings to interest me.

I am also in California. This was an open air gun show in Corona last weekend.

As far as guns that are not on CA DOJ roster, you can still buy them. My 1911 is not CA approved either, but it was sold to be under SSE (Singe Shot Exemption). Basically the gun was sold to me with no mags and a piece of wood shoved in, instead of a mag. It also had a 7" barrel installed.

I was basically told to take the gun out of the store, put it in my trank and close it. After that take it out and bring it back into the store. Once i did that, they installed original mags and the barrel. BAM! The gun is now CA-legal and 100% functional.

Find a local FFL dealer who would do SSE and you are good!

humm, I'll have to see if a good gun show gets close enough to me (NorCal).

So far I haven't had sse luck with local gun shops, perhaps I should look at some of the 'smaller' guys

There should definitely be a separate thread for shotguns.

My Benelli Nova equipped with a 28" barrel and side saddle. Still have a few more mods that need to be done.

I have a .22 Ruger and a .9 Berretta. I love both but the Ruger is impossible to disassemble. I'll post pics in a bit.

Want this gun bad, just don't want to pay $25-$30 per box/50. That's like $100 a week to shoot.

But love the gun.

Buy both a pump and a semi, used. Shoot them both, sell the one you don't like. You can buy both for around $1200 maybe less.

I use my pump for skeet and it can be an inconvenience at times when shooting doubles or even just pumping out that second shot. Concentration is key and for some people taking that extra moment to pump a second round can be a distraction to their focus/aim. It all comes down to what works best for you.

And +1 on the O/U comment. I've shot my friends Browning O/U and while it's nice and everything, for the money you can buy two or three shotguns.

Good luck with your purchase.

A little update on my search...

I ended up going w/ the Buckmark (over the mkIII) after picking both up in a local shop. The Buckmark was just a better fit for me.

Also, more recently picked up a 'poor man's Sig'...a CZ-75B. I'm wondering if I shouldn't have gone w/ the SP-01 since it has rails on it. This thing fits like a glove, though.

Both have been the range on several occasions. This last time sucked pretty bad since I'm finally making it back to the gym and my tri's and front delts were sore as fook. Kinda hard to hold steady... Actually...my shooting hand is a little sore....I think I was overcompensating by gripping tighter <---(not sig material, Mike!).

Having a Uplula speedloader is a big help! Collins, it's worth the few bucks for it!

Question for others....what do you have for a range bag? I'm currently using a LA Police Gear bail out bag as a range bag. Not bad for $20 and not too big. I'm thinking of swapping out for Midway's Compact Compt range bag, though. The bail out bag would then serve duty in my MCS' trunk to hold my misc stuff (e.g. compressor, puncture kit, etc...).
