Op, you just learned an important lesson, never ever put your personally stuff on the internet, it is not secure. I do not understand people and their need to put things in which you do not want others having on the internet.

Unlike the everyday thief who breaks into your home internet thieves are far smarter, look at the hacker who stole all the information from Target and they hire professions to keep people out.

From this point forward if I was you I would never place any information you not interesting in others ever finding out about on the internet.

How the person found it, who know, I found things on the internet buy doing a search the right way which I know I should have never found since it was private or confidential information. Why, a simple security laps on someone part, a directory permission all of a sudden was change and Google found it doing their normal search of web sites and directory structure.

I am told by my kids teachers now have a resource which they can load any document into it and it will go out to the internet and tell the teacher if their is a copy of what you handed in, it will tell them if there are exact matches or what % of the work can be found out on the internet. You may have been caught by something similar if your original work is still showing up on the internet.

Head the warning never place any thing on google drive or any cloud based service unless you willing to accept it becoming open to the pubic.

It sounds like the OP loaded his work into a cloud based system which the University runs. If that is the only place his code resided other than on his personal media/computer, then there are some serious issues with the cloud system the University is running.
