A lot of folks mentioning good beers. I didn't know New Castle was that big. On the contrary, on the East Coast quite a few folks I bumped into haven't even heard of New Castle (despite it being offered in the bars).

Now if only I can find some of these in the local grocery stores...

Guiness is also really good, despite me never trying it until for the first time I drank it when we all had a carbomb/NRA. I always imagined that it would be a bitter beer but apparently not (or perhaps my tolerance is going up). I stayed away from IPA for a long time because I thought some IPAs were too hoppy. But hey, guess like I'll be headin' to the Yard House to try some of the purportedly good IPAs!

We're on the thrid page and no one's mentioned Chimay? That beer is fantastic albeit a bit pricey.

I also like Newcastle and Bass when I have to drink an ale.

For darker beers (porters and stouts) I like some by a microbrew up in Northern California called Mendocino Brewing Company. Their Black Hawk Stout is great--makes Guiness taste like motor oil.

Chimay? Never heard of it before but I'll keep an eye out for it. Pricey? Ice wine is pricey.

But going back to beer, porters and stouts have been dawning on me lately...making me slowly stray away from white/light beers like the pilsners.

EDIT: I find it hilarious how both my dachshunds love beer. I don't let them drink it but sometimes out of nowhere, they simultaneously ambush me on the couch to subdue me and snatch away my bottle of beer.

Also recently found out that some beers are better drunk off the tap!

It's fantastic. Trappist beer made in Belgium. All their flavors are good. Their reserve is over $10 for a 22 ounce bottle--that's from a store, not restaurant. If you ever come accross it, be sure to get it. You won't be dissappointed (assuming you like dark, smooth, rich beer--it ain't no hefeweizen).

No, depends on the restaurant/bar. Here in CA there is a chain called "The Yard House" that has 200 or 300 beers on tap at each location. Their bar is huge and they have a separate room for all the kegs.

That wasn't really a question. Just a remark for db17k, the apparent master of beers on tap.

I actually went to the Yard House in downtown SD. Their beer selection is insane but if I order by their yard glasses, I probably won't be able to try out more than a couple beers, hahah!

EDIT: That Chimay was poured well into that glass! Check out that head! I only recently perfected the art of pouring!

Never met a beer I didn't like .... unless it's gone stale.

Seriously, I think there's only been one yugoslavian beer that I picked up at Trader Joe's one night that I didn't like. And it's still up for debate on whether it'd just gone flat or really tasted like cabbage water filtered through sweaty gym socks.

I'll drink anything. Even the Miller Lites and the Bud Ices of the world have their time and place.

I can never go into those mega-on-tap places. I can never pick just one.
