BMW Vision Neue Klasse EV Concept teasers ahead of imminent reveal

Wits reveal imminent, BMW has posted these Neue Klasse Concept teasers in the last 24 hours.

Neue Klasse is BMW's new EV platform and not just a single product. BMW has plans to launch 6 models on the new platform within 24 months of the first one beginning production.

The first model to be built on the Neue Klasse platform will be an electric sedan. The second will be a compact SUV.

"It is about nothing less than the future of the BMW brand, the BMW Group and our portfolio. We are in intensive preparation for this and will continue to make significant investments in relevant future technologies over the next few years," Zipse said about what Neue Klasse means to the automaker.

Manufacturing of the first Neue Klasse EV will begin in 2025 at Debrecen, Hungary and manufacturing in Munich will start in 2026. It will also produce them in Shenyang, China, beginning in 2026. An $855-million (500-million euro) expansion to the Plant San Luis Potosí in Mexico will allow that location to manufacture Neue Klasse models and battery packs in 2027.

It's gonna be a softer, more palatable iteration of Dee.

At least they’ll finally be revealing and utilizing a full fledged EV platform versus trying to force an EV into the existing platforms and then not even having the same features as other EVs on the market (I.e. usable frunk, etc.).

Interested in seeing the full reveal and what comes in the next couple of years.

The market for traditional sports coupes and EVs in the 2020's has very little overlap on the ol Venn diagram. Expect to see the hypothetical i2 M50 in 2033, if ever.

Oh, I know it.

The Caterham and MG's look interesting, and maybe not forever off, but UK / Euro only.

People that make that type of statement have no clue about what they are saying.

First the current platforms for the i4, i5 and i7 are not ICE platforms. The platforms were developed as such to provide the ability to be ICE, BEV or hybrid. There is nothing inherently wrong with that approach and is a smart way to introduce the technology as customer demand dictates. They do have share holders.

The next platform will also support BEV, hybrid and ICE. Slightly different than now where BEV is a main priority, but you still aren't getting a "frunk".

BMW has made three BEV/hybrid only cars and none have a "frunk". There is the i3, i8 and the iX and notably the iX doesn't actually allow you to open the hood unless you jump through hoops. The iX has only one configuration; BEV.

A "frunk" is not part of BMW design language.

A tunnel like the i3, i5 and i7 have add to structural rigidity. That is one reason why the mid engined C8 Corvette still has a tunnel and has no real need for one.

FYI, the IX was built as an EV from the ground up.

They don’t believe the market is there for it anymore. This is the Cybertuck era where all** the manufacturers are behaving like crabs in a barrel trying to compete with a concept vehicle with “shatterproof” glass. Guess who’s at the top of that barrel…

Not even remotely close to ICE

Where did you get the informations regarding the next platform and the frunk?
Platform-wise BMW stated for the Neue Klasse that it is a BEV platform. Am I wrong?

This rumour needs to die already. M-B already debunked this. This is not going to happen or not happen in the way we would want. the W206 was not designed for a V6/I6, never mind a V8 so I highly doubt Mercedes would modify the chassis to even incorporate the use of a V8 when the facelift happens. If the V8 were to make a return, it would probably be some limited special edition but not your normal run/production C63. This applies to the E Class as well, but we won't know much until the car actually gets delivered to dealerships.

I know a lot of people don't want to hear it or maybe choose to just turn a blind eye, but Mercedes-Benz is all-in on electric and hybrid. This isn't just about manufacturing cars. The dealerships are required to slowly transition to be more EV focused and Mercedes corporate is paying a lot of money to help these dealerships do that by subsidizing the transition. No way Mercedes is spending money to force dealerships to transition to EV but then walk it back because the press is bad mouthing the C63.

Could Mercedes modify the W206 chassis to fit a V8? Sure, but that ultimately means money spent to deviate from the original budget with the W206. And to spend that much money for a model that isn't really a volume seller? Doesn't make much sense. At best, we might get a "Black Series" variant with a 200k price tag or something.

i3 had a frunk. Wasn’t weather safe so ended up being a great place to store my dried leaves and spiders.
