Mid-Engine ZR-1, sources say its a GOOO

http://wot.motortrend.com/1408_scoop...e_is_a_go.html

Mid-engine has been in the corvettes blood for years!!! However, to me it seems like off all the generations, the technology is finally there to make it a reality. A real american hypercar.

Favorite part of the article...

"GM source recently told us that the Z06’s supercharged LT4 is capable of producing 1000 hp"

I'll believe this right after Alfa sells 100k cars in the US.

They'd have to do such a large redesign it would almost be like developing a brand new car rather than a c7 variant. I would love to see it but I have serious doubts this will happen.

This rumor again? It would be great to see, but I have my doubts for sure.

I believe it. Like the article mentions, the new Camaro will be so fast that they kind-of have to.

Only thing that seems plausible for a ZR1 on the current platform would be front-mid (FMR). A C8 could be MR, simply because they've pushed the FR setup to its absolute limits.

The current C7 is already mid-engine.

Front mid engine yes, but not rear mid engine since that is what everyone thinks of.

Well shit, that makes perfect sense given the front axle placement and the huge front end. Never knew the engine was well behind the front axle, especially given the neutral balance.

Multiple sources!? Rendering of a corvette by some Japanese guy that looks semi-realistic? Sounds legit

Jonny Lieberman (Motor Trend) tweeted this yesterday.

"mt_loverman: "Electrons will flow." The only thing I could get out of anyone at GM about our Mid-Engine Corvette story http://t.co/5pihhUj77d #corvette"

I bet it'll be a similar config and drivetrain to the P1, LaFerrai, 918, etc.
