There's an ongoing investigation regarding Schumi's DRS being open and remained open under waved yellow.

Looks like he's off the hook, but grid penalties handed out to Vergne and Kobayashi for the next race. Maldonado copping a 20 sec increase to his race time which only drops him from 10 to 12, seems quite light punishment of you believe he's at fault for t-boning Hamilton

He went off track and tried to get back on, but at the same time hamilton didnt give him room to stay on track.

Both are at fault if you ask me

I guess this breaks the norm for a boring GP of Europe. Just goes to show how a f**king safety car can muck things up. Renault needs to fix their goddam alternator issues. Very happy for Schumi tho (and I don't think he looked smug either - he was surprised to be on the podium).

That was for me a very good race, but a rather disappointing final result with Hamilton getting knocked out on the last lap. The biggest loser is perhaps Vettel as he had clearly more pace than anyone. The issue of how they are so instantly dominant all of a sudden from Q3 of Qualifying, from struggling in Q1 and 2, into the race is for another time. Also, a real shame for Hamilton. Maldonado was all over the place all race, he has absolutely terrible car control and once you go off track, you have to slot in behind. He was lucky to get such a light punishment, especially since this is his 3rd time this year to use his car as a weapon.

Congrats to Alonso. Of all the drivers he is definitely the most shrewd. He with Ferrari are pulling off results that really shouldn't be possible.

However, the precedent was set earlier this year that it was still ok to push cars off track, and it even happened all throughout this race as well with drivers (Maldonado in particular) shutting the door. Where-as it has never been ok to leave the track and rejoin into another car that was on track. If both are at fault, Maldonado's action breaks the more harder defined of either the two rules breached.

I'd say both are "responsible" for the incident, both could have be hauling good points home. One crashed, one penalized.

But if the stewards MUST put a penalty by the book to one of the drivers. It has to be Maldonado.

In this case, both are stupid and Maldonado could have waited like he should have done in Australia too.

Caterham is one step closer to mid-field teams.

With my 20/20 hindsight, I kind of wish when after Maldonado had gone off track that Lewis had let him come back. Maldonado would have gone on, then gotten a penalty for gaining an unfair advantage by passing off the track which would have given Lewis back the podium.

Like I said though, that is my 20/20 hindsight.

Definitely a good one.
Hamilton and Maldonado looked inevitable. Hamilton should have kept his wits about him and given the position knowing that it was more important to just make it to the finish on those tires. Best F1 season in a long time.

Phenomenal race! A real surprise this year from Valencia. So happy for Alonso.

Well said. Very unfortunate for Hamilton, it was definitely Maldonado's fault, considering that he was re-joining the track and had run-off space to the left (he didn't HAVE to run into Hamilton). Also disappointing for Grosjean, who looked good for a podium and possibly even a win?

Alonso was brilliant today. To come from 11th to 1st at VALENCIA, of all places...that is something very special. I don't want to jinx him, but this really is increasingly looking like his season. All Ferrari has to do is give him a consistently quick car, and he will deliver.

Amazing race. If you had told me at the beginning of the season that Canada would be boring and Valencia would've been one of the most exciting races of the year, I would've laughed in your face!

Great to see Alonso win and great to see Schu back on the podium! And another stellar race from JB too (roll eyes from a diehard JB fan...)
