My personal taste but I think they'll look so much better in a different colour, a grey, darker shade than the car though. Black alloys look good off a car but I feel you lose the detail of the wheel in the darkness of the wheel arch

That's exactly my thoughts and that have lead me to this decision; the 397s I'm fine with being satin black as the winters; but they're also not as busy as the 405Ms

A better colour will have them pop more on the car, so to speak

Interior received an in-depth clean as I'd shifted a lot of bulk compost yesterday and the dust got everywhere! The headliner was absolutely coated in it, so that's been hoovered first and then worked my way down!

Leather wiped clean with Dr Leather wipes (superb things) and the alcantara has been brushed clean

I'm not really keen on all alcantara steering wheels, I like the feel of them but they tend to stand out as very matt against the background of a standard dashboard. But, in yours, with all the other alcantara and the carbon fibre it looks really good

Agree Lee; I'm in the same boat (I had numerous Sabelt alcantara steering wheels in my Jap import Honda's etc)

But for my BMWs they've all been leather

However, as I've got the dry CF/alcantara M Performance interior trim etc; the steering wheel suits that line & it's really nice in the hands; warm too

Like everything else; I've kept all the original parts, so they'll get swapped back when it comes to selling the car

I wasn't sure at first with it being a black interior; but it actually lifts the interior and makes it a nicer place to sit IMO - better than the OEM alu trim that's just a bit plain/dull/boring etc

Haha thank you; and the M valve caps too...

My OCD would never forgive me if they weren't lined up

Cheers

And yeah haha it was forecast to be fair. It's bitter here and on off rain & hail, but just wanted to clean the grime off the car so I could see how well the wheels looked with the car clean.

A quick snow foam and hand wash/towel dry and it was done...

Wheels look good 👍

Out of interest what tyres you running? I removed my RFT couple of days ago and went with Hankook s1evo3 95y XL, I wasn't to sure about decision due to some say car looses steering feel ect. Well my initial impression are very very good. Had Goodyear on front and Bridgestone on rear, as much as I liked Goodyear will never buy again in my life, 2 year old tyre with about 13k had surface cracks between thread, tyre still had 5mm and always looked wrong "stretched". Conti is same from experiance. So much better without RFT, I'm not worried about blow outs or anything so RFT have no benefit to me at all, I do have pump with magic goo but I prefer plugs, last tyre life or can be removed and professionally repaired when you get chance. 4 wheel alligment at the same time and car drives better then ever.

They almost look like different wheels; so much of the spoke detail is lost with the factory black finish. They contrast the Glacier Silver perfectly.

I run Goodyear Assym6s, non RFTs in 235/45/18s on the current 405Ms and Goodyear Vector Gen 3 4Season tyres on the Style 397s, in 235/45/18s as well

OEM size is 225/45; they're a touch stretched; 235 is a much better option for the 18x8 wheels - you could go 245/40 but I prefer the sidewall of the 45s personally

Never had any issues with Goodyear tyres (it's been a few years since I used them last TBH (Assym3s); been on Michelin PS4s, Falken FK510s and Vredestein Ultrac Vorti's on my previous E39s and F01 etc)

I'm in the same camp re RFTs; I don't like how they make the car ride & handle; plus with the full suspension overhaul I've just done, the tyres suit the suspension & vice-versa and I've a decent tyre repair kit and inflator spugged away under the boot floor etc and full BMW Assist breakdown too

Thanks; fully agree! Now you can see their detail, they're so much better!

I saw an F31 340i on fully powdercoated 20" 405Ms that had been done in a bright silver (it was a dark blue 340i) and the wheels looked superb; the detail of the wheels really popped against the cars dark colour.

When their diamond cut I think they just look wrong personally

The 18" 405Ms are obviously the same design and smaller; but the satin black finish of them (great for over winter if you don't really do 'washing your car') but their detail was lost; the feeric grey finish has sorted that & they look brilliant

The car does sit odd on my driveway with it not being level and kinks half way up too; but at Waitrose this morning on the billiard-table flat car park; the car looked superb

Really glad I got them refurbished!

I never had problem before but last pair sort of put me of but it was first Goodyear RFT I used, all before was standard tyre.

I did consider 235/45/18 on front but due to running staggered setup will just put the front bit bigger then rears, and to get rear in line with front on staggered setup would have to run 265/40/18 and is just too wide for that 8.5j rim.

Run 235/45 or 245/40 all round - shouldn't be an issue unless your cars xDrive
