EXIF Readers and Privacy
So, this might be basic or known for others, and for those know about photography; the intended audience is for those who have GPS-enabled cameras who tend to share photos, and for those who are concerned about their privacy and the privacy of their family/friends.
EXIF (exchangeable image file) adds specific metadata to your photos (such as lens type, angles, camera orientation, and lat/long coordinates) and is used by many cameras. This is important because some data extracted from your photos can reveal your location and even your name. An scary but probably unlikely example: Your teenage daughter takes a photo with her iPhone in the house and sends the photo out. Her phone is GPS enabled and the photo contains its EXIF data. Some creep gets a hold of the photo. Minutes later, creep notifies her that he knows her address, or even shows up to spy on her. There's a good webpage which will read your photos' EXIF data if you'd like to check it out: http://regex.info/exif.cgi Simply add a photo (ensure you understand that the owner of the site can also view the photo) and look at the data. Or you can simple view the data in Photoshop. There are tools out there which will strip EXIF data (such as Photoshop or various EXIF removers). This has been a public service announcement. When I take nude photos with my iphone and post them online I always hope that somebody will peep through my window for a good show. Never happens though. Damn...
