Looks and sounds stupid and adds $200 to the cost of brake components for zero benefit.

It's the same concept as the Geomet coating on the ECS tuning rotors. The braking surfaces wear with use leaving the shiny raw metal finish you see on every other car, and the chrome surfaces stay intact elsewhere providing corrosion resistance. I agree that putting color there is dumb, but anything looks better than the standard rust covered rotor hats.

My car is LeMans Blue. Blue Rotors? Someone else do it first so I can see if I like it. I would do the calipers blue. But all they make is these cheesy plastic ones for a decent price, but I did find some real metal caliper covers (//M style) that were nice for about $500/set, I might as well get real Brembos. Dang, I can't find the good metal brake web site. I found MGP, but by the time I get them painted blue, they're $400.

Once in use, the pads will remove the paint from most of the area you see like any other rotor with a protective layer of zinc. Supposedly the "chomium" they spray on it is better than zinc. Sure it wouldn't look gody once most it is worn in. It will not look like the picture in the first post at all. However, I'd just get zimmerman rotors with the silver zinc coating and then spray high temp paint on the areas that won't get worn down. Pads will take care of making it have clean paint lines.

+1...

After hitting the brakes a few times, the layer of paint will be gone and you'll be left with brake discs that looks like shit.

I think it would look awesome with rims like these though...

For a $7 can of spray paint that coincidentally matches LeMans Blue nearly perfectly, I did an experiment. I think I like it. I sure wasn't going to spend $50 on plastic caliper covers that would be cheesy, and I wasn't going to pay $200 - $500 for some good metal ones that may or may not be cheesy. So, I'm not frontin' like I got some fake Brembos, they're just the factory brakes painted, and I think they look much better than default factory. What gives, though? I got the M-sport package, a $3000 upgrade, and it came with these ugly ass calipers? Even the Infiinti G37 gets some fancy looking brake calipers when you get the sport package! Anyway, here are the pictures... I only had time to do one side tonight

So, I didn't even tape anything up, just quick and dirty. I sprayed on the brake surfaces of the rotors and I wiped the paint off with thinner as best I could. I then drove it for a bit, and the pads cleaned up the rest, which you can see in the pictures. I'm concerned a bit about temperature, as this is 200 deg F paint on the rotors, but I don't race, and I painted rotors on a previous (not as high performance) car before with no problems. I checked the temperatures after a little ride around with some more than normal braking, and rotor surface temps were around 200F. Calipers were cooler.

Wth is wrong with you people....

Okay. Brakes are meant to be as *muthafuckin clean as muthafuckin possible* that means no dirt, grime, finger grease, brake lube, anti sieze, anything! Leave your brakes alone, they are suppose to be the color that they are.

If you feel so burned to paint your calipers please dont do this ^^^^^^ i garentee his brakes will begin to squeek in about 1-3 months, assuming they werent already, just upgrade the rotors, calipers, or get a bbk! When doing your brakes empty a can of "brake cleaner" after you assemble the brakes, and ONLY lube where the pad meets the metal hardware, and the slide pins. NO WHERE ELSE.

I guarantee if the brakes start to squeek in 1-3 months if it isn't already.....it's not because of paint.

Zimmerman and OEM rotors comes with a zinc coating on it. This is pretty much paint. It's just not colorful.

You can paint your rotor hat and calipers any color you want. As long as its black. Before and after on my rotor and pad redo. Personally, I can't imagine how any "purists" would prefer the rusty look, but to each his own. Picture two shows the caliper and rotor painted black with caliper paint. More than a few feet away, it disappears, and you can't see it. Which is sort of the point for me: it makes the alloys pop right out, but no fanboy bullshit hiding underneath.

Funny you should bring these up. There is a kid at my gym that had them on for a few months on his Civic SI. He had black ones and they looked nice at first but after about a month and a half the black finish started to fade and it was quite visible.

painted calipers I do understand, they will stay nice no matter what but rotors??? I don't care how well they look when new, break pads expose bare metal and eventually rust will start from the edge where break pads exposed rotors, pealing the paint slowly and I think that is where the ugly part of painted rotors will show and look bad. There is a reason why factory is not painted but hey, if someone love to do some DIY and keep them clean and fight with rust , why not

Not painting the rotors per ce. Just the hub flange boss, aka: the hat. Caliper paint is like oven paint. It won't flake. There's no paint on my pads, nor on the business end of the "rotors". Just cosmetic, but not "fanboy" car jewelry and makeup. Just like black better than rust. I don't know anything about rotors that come in any color but silver like some of the painted ones referred to around here. But locally, due to harsh and severe winter conditions, most of my friends and I will do pads in the spring no matter what. By then the salt and moisture will have all the non-contact rotor surfaces pretty evenly rusted.

Edit: Just went out front and took a picture: this is after about 5k miles: nothing to see here, move along. (which is the whole point of black)

oh, though you do the entire thing as per link in prev messages that was posted by someone lol. Kudos to you, if you are doing yearly touch ups to keep it nice then for sure it beats the rusty version of it
