New Car Don'ts or Urban Legend?

Given some of the ... misinformation, fear, uncertainty, and doubt I've seen posted I thought it'd be fun to start a list:

New Car Don'ts or Urban Legend?
  1. Don't let your car sit idle for more than 2 weeks or [unknown] will happen
  2. Don't exceed 5.5k RPM during break-in or BMW will void your warranty
  3. Don't use a car wash pressure washer or your paint will flay off like wood chips
Have i missed any?

there are some similarities but those are very exaggerated and false.

I'd be surprised if the break-in guidelines don't say to not exceed 5500 rpm for the first 1500 miles. Will they void your warranty if you do go past 5500? Not automatically. But if there's a problem and they can blame it on that then they will probably try.

There was thread here where someone used a pressure wash and damaged the lower part of the front bumper. Search for it.

If you let the car sit for 2 weeks or more you'll grow hair on your palms.

Cheers.

If you give a deposit in January and get a production number in April it doesn't mean shit, you will end up with order sitting around with no progress for 5 or 6 months anyway!!!!!!!!!!

I heard that it is bad luck to have sex in the car.

...Good thing I don't believe in luck!

maybe if you use a zero tip but that will remove the paint off any car and also pretty stupid as it goes beyond commonsense.

i've owned a lot of bmw's and pressure washed them all for years with no issues.

I'm not exactly sure why it happened. I went on a long road trip around Europe, had a hunch of bugs on the front bumper. Tried pressure washing when I got back, and some of the paint peeled right off. Was pretty butt hurt. Maybe it was two weeks of the bug build up I dunno. Cuz I've used the same pressure washer plenty of times before.
