In addition to being a great BluRay player, I gotta tell you, the upscaler on the BD-P1200 (Samsung BluRay player) makes it the most amazing DVD player I've seen yet. Secrets of Home Theater rated it better than any DVD player or transport they've ever seen....that includes transports that sell for over $2000.

I've been re-watching a bunch of DVD's (like my LOTR series), as the BD-P1200 w/ the 58" 1080p display is bringing out detail in my DVD's that I've never seen before. That said, I can't wait to see LOTR on BluRay or HD-DVD!

I'm not counting Wii's since they only do 480p. And I'm not counting 360s because of the Red Ring of Death. Arbitrary rules FTW.

lol at least the Wii has some games going for it. I've played most of the PS3 games and can't find one that would make me wanna buy it besides GT5. RRoD is blown out of proportion. Sure it's worse than average, but it's not omg wtfux bad. So far the PS3 has by far the fewest sales and the weakest library of games.

Yeah. That's because Sony is planning to support the PS2 until the PS3 sales/games pick up. GT5, the shared titles, and Blu-Ray will put PS3 sales through the roof next year. Hell, the PS3 is already outselling the Wii in Japan now.

Eh, I guess we can argue the matter for as long as we live, so I guess it's just best to see how things unfold.

I'll just continue having fun with my PS3, and you can have fun with your console(s).

I stayed out of this race...
despite I was a fan of BluRay from the get-go I decided not to plunge into it..
I won't be repurchasing any of my DVDs in BluRay (over 800 DVDs).. just new movies will be purchased in BluRay from now on...
do BluRay players read regular DVDs? or not?
eventually I'm just going to rip all those movies to some offline PC... cuz let's be honest, after BluRay, it's gonna be a new format... probably some kind of flash disk...

My buddy is considering a Panasonic HDTV from Best Buy and they're offering a free Blu Ray player with it I think Amazon had the same deal too, according to him.

+1

I had a premium console, gamed on it pretty hard, long hours, no RRoD. I have an Elite now (was able to return the Premium, nothing wrong with it, just wanted HDMI before Premiums supported it), absolutely no issues. Game selection is great, nothing compelling me to get a PS3. I would get a Wii though just for the fun factor and Mario games!

You guys really need to read back in the thread - at least to the top of the page!

I can't wait for the player price drops. The blank media needs to be at a normal level too. The price of blank media is ridiculous.

Heres another side to the story... Both are going to lose.. More and more people are going to start downloading vidoes instead of buying a disk. I have been using my Vudu box for several months now and haven't touched a DVD or Blu Ray for a long time. I no longer have to pay $30 for a Blu Ray or $19 for a DVD, I simply turn on my Vudu box select one of the 5,000 movies and growing from the collection including HD movies and can rent them or buy them, the movies play instantly and I dont have to go to the store or pay tax or wait for netflix to deliver..

Granted the Vudu box has a high entry costs but expect that to go down in a while right now its still new and you pay to play in terms of new technology, I hear netflix is testing a box similar to Vudu. But so far its been worth it and I view this as threat to both HD DVD and Blu Ray, kind of in the same way we used to cary around cassettes then CD's now we have an ipod with no mess.

it looks like Blu ray might finally be making a bigger push to get there product out. I just went to my local Best Buy and they are offering 10 Free Blu rays with the purchase of any blu ray player. They are giving you 5 instantly at the store and then 5 more by mail.

it might have made my decision a bit easier...

I had heard of that but didn't know how it was doing. How good is the quality compared to, say, HD television since you don't have an HD DVD or Blu-Ray player? It's supposed to stream in MP4 then convert to HD, so I'm wondering if there's a loss in quality?
