Seriously, though. Maldonado is such a liability. He's been a dick this entire season, starting on the second lap in Australia when he ran Grosjean off the track and out of the race.

I'm glad Perez was so outspoken after the British GP...I was thinking the same thing. One of these days, Maldonado's going to be responsible for a terrible accident. Keep doing stupid shit like that and it's going to catch up with you (and whoever's driving next to you).

Being aggressive is one thing, we've all seen drivers drove aggressively from time to time. But racing is racing, done. After the checkered flag, its done and dusted, up to the stewards if anyone suspects to violate any regulations.

But crashing his own car to someone else after the flag is just unprofessional.
Also even if someone unfortunately blocked you for a little while in Monaco, you don't use your car as a weapon and make your statement! The most was give him your finger and scream and yell. Period.

I've been watching F1 for only 2 years now but I can recall far too many 'racing' incidents with maldonado. Just off the top of my head:

2011

Monaco - with Hamilton
Spa - with Hamilton (purposely)

2012

Melbourne - with Grosjean. Also in line for points LAST lap (6th i think) and wrecked himself.
Malaysia - wrecked himself again late in the race while in points position
Monaco - with Perez(purposely) (qual) then Karthekian (race)
Valencia - with Hamilton (we all know that one)
Silverstone - with Perez

Also, earlier in the (Silverstone) race, in the same turn he took out Perez, was a near-miss with Raikonnen. In the post race he said he gave plenty of room, but when I went back and watched he pushed Kimi off the track.

I never understood why Toro Rosso doesn't use a more unique livery

This proposed one looks awesome IMO

Personally, I'd like to see Webber win one finally. he's such a good driver not to have one. He got close in 2010 and he's having a great season this year.

Without a doubt I'd want Webber to win his first (if for no better reason he is a nice guy that has worked hard and is doing well), I have come to appreciate Alonso a lot more though and he doesn't quite come off as arrogant as he used to. That being said though I think it is going to be a tough fight.

On a slight aside I don't want 'fingerboi' to win his 3rd consecutive WDC title, sounds ridiculous but his little celebration rants on the team radio (e.g. yabba dabba doo) and his trademark index finger move really annoy me! No idea why... he has however got good humour as demonstrated through interviews and various TV show appearances and appears to be a very level headed guy

Agreed. Alonso deserves another world title. He has pulled off some stunning drives in the past few years in some less than exceptional cars and teams.

I think the red, blue and white stripes look like an afterthought (white streaks like under the bull would be better), but otherwise it would be a really nice way to make their cars stand apart from Red Bull.

Those stripes are lifted straight off the RBR livery.

The closest we've gotten to eye-level yet, I hope they start using something like this much more during race weekends.

Here's a graph showing how much each driver has contributed to WCC standings so far.

You did see the quote from the driver, Lucas di Grassi: "I had to drive with only one eye open as the camera was blocking my other eye, quite tricky."

It's definitely much better than when Bruno Senna drove Spa one handed, holding up his cell phone in the cockpit:

F1 seeks rule change on controversial engine maps used by Red Bull

Quote:
The FIA's concern is that Red Bull and engine manufacturer Renault are using reduced torque settings for a given engine speed. These act as a form of traction control, limiting wheelspin out of corners.

Governing body the FIA found that Red Bull's engine was delivering less torque at full throttle in the mid-range of the engine's rev band in Germany than it had at the preceding British Grand Prix.

They said this was a breach of article 5.5.3 of the technical regulations, which states that the "maximum accelerator travel position must correspond to an engine torque demand equal to or greater than the maximum engine torque at the measured engine speed"

BBC

In other words, the rule implies that if the accelerator is pressed at 100% power delivery must be at 100%. What Red Bull is doing is giving it a 80%- 50% on the lower revs as the car exits the corner acting as traction control . Finally these cheaters are being dealt with. They should've had a 3 race ban IMO.

BBC F1 technical analyston on how to fix the loop hole

Quote:
"To fix the loophole, the FIA could write a rule that said: "The accelerator pedal travel will be defined as 0% (minimum) to 100% (maximum) and at any position between these two end stops the percentage torque output of the engine base torque map for the measured engine speed must match the accelerator pedal percentage +/- 1%...

"This would mean the relationship between throttle pedal position and the torque delivery must be linear.

"And the rule could finish by saying: "… and the percentage of throttle body opening must match the accelerator pedal percentage +/- 10%.

"That would mean any change in torque characteristics could not be done by just retarding the ignition - a common method of employing engine braking - while leaving the throttle open to pump air through the engine and exhausts, which is a way of using the exhausts for aerodynamic effect.

"Allowing a margin of +/- 10% provides some leeway for the characteristics of different engines, as all have different operating requirements."

Thanks for the clarification. But I do not think race ban is justified.
Given the words of the regulation, Red Bull did not violate any of it; and FIA cannot pose penalties just because of the "spirit of the rule".

I think again RBR has been quite slick on these stuff, F1 has been exploring loop holes in the regulation to maximize the performance to their advantage. Sadly the words of the regulation only restricts the "maximum" torque setting. As long as the torque ratio between pedal and the power delivery is 100% when the driver floor the pedal. They satisfy the regulation. Any bit lower is not governed.

I'm sure this will be clarified and amended during this week's Technical Working Group meeting.

But one thing to point out, does anyone agree the FIA should amend the rule "mid-season"? Or they should rephrase the regulation after the 2012 season is over.

As long as the FIA doesn't make it like a confusing drama like last year's British Grand Prix. Changing regulation after P3 or Qualifying session on Saturday. Then revert the decision back on Sunday morning.
