I hate GRAVEL Trucks

F*ing gravel trucks. I'm so glad no one was in the passenger seat as the glass splintered everywhere.

i've stopped traffic in order to not be behind a gravel truck.

Figure yourself lucky that you don't have to have your hood resprayed.

Ouch!

Yeah, hate 'em too. I also hate idiots that drive over/beyond lines and kick up rocks, etc.

In my State in the US, 'open' trucks are required to have a tarp that pulls across the top of the gravel, as well as the company name and truck number on the back of the truck. It doesn't prevent every rock chip, but if you get hit by a rock from a truck without the required tarp and take a photo of the truck, it's not hard to persuade the company to pay your deductible to avoid the extensive fine they have to pay.

Ouch, pretty shitty. I have to deal with gravel trucks weekly through the backroads, I hang back until I see a window then end up mashing the gas in the opposing lane to avoid things like this. Gets to be pretty frustrating week after week.

Awesome that the company has to pay for that. In my state all of the trucks have signs on the back that say "Not responsible for damage to vehicle" and they leave the beds uncovered.

Only signs I seem to see on the back of trucks are in IA that say "Do not follow into work area". I know in WI that the companies aren't responsible but will sometimes pay for it if you call and are courteous.

Ya so in Alberta insurance companies won't cover front glass. My deductible is $450 and after market glass is $479. so it would have been a no brainer . I am glad it didn't hit the hood or grill. The size of the rock was huge and it looked like it flew out from the wheels not the box.I think these drivers should responsible for looking for boulders that are stuck between the dual wheels before they leave any gravel pit.

I just put this new windshield 5 months ago under BMW warranty and had to wait 7 weeks for them to bring one in from Germany.I don't know the quality of the glass they use in Germany but I didn't like the way it splintered. If I had a passenger with me there face would have been covered in glass.

I still hate gravel trucks !!!

I had my windshield cracked by a truck just two weeks ago. I called the glass company to come to my house to fix it. For some reason they guy said he'd never seen a crack like that before. He had to call his supervisor and ask him what to do. He tried to fix it but was baffled by it. He apologized and asked me to bring my car to their shop. I guess they felt super bad that I had to drive down there (all of 8 miles) and they kept apologizing and actually replaced it free of charge and did not bill my insurance for it. Called USAA this morning to make sure they didnt put it through insurance and yep, they kept their word...no charge.

I had pieces of a street that was being carried on a truck fall out of it and hit my hood, I was so angry. I now keep a distance from trucks carrying stuff. Switch lanes and punch it lol

I recall that someone died not too far from where I lived because a big rock fell out from a dump truck and went through someone's windshield. Trucks were supposed to have tarps up when hauling a load but I still see some that don't.

I get the impression that if we called we could get them to pay for it but that the signs are there to discourage most people from doing it. It's mostly frustrating that they take that position.

they suck royally.

I remember years ago I was on 695 around Baltimore which is a death trap to begin with, following a drump truck some 50yds back or so and he hit a bridge transition causing 2 rocks the size of basketballs to fly out of his suspension. A serious oh shit moment at 70mph as they bounced up to head level and came flying at me. Luckily they split my car and went off to the side. Best I could tell no one got hit.

Fuck those trucks.

Some asshole that wasn't paying attention to traffic patterns cut me off today.

I was making a right turn at a light (had the green). The road I turned onto has two lanes temporarily. The right lane ends after about 15-20 yards and traffic must merge left.

I turned right, staying in the right-most lane. I signaled to merge left, and then did so immediately. Some jackass came racing up the right side of me, in the right lane that was about to end.

Despite the fact that I had backed off the throttle to let him pass (wasn't trying to run him off the road, though in hindsight I should have), he ran out of road and swerved into a bunch of dirt, gravel, and broken pavement off the side of the road.

When he swerved back, cutting me off, his car sent a bunch of debris bouncing off the road surface right at my front end. Luckily there weren't any cars behind me so I slammed the brakes and did some Matrix maneuvers to avoid a bunch of rocks skipping into my car at 30 mph.

Damn that story turned out to be too long. Just wanted to vent about this tactic. Hate it when people veer off the road and send rocks and crap hurling toward me.

Sorry to hear about your windshield, OP.

I vented, really loudly, when the rock broke my windshield. I think I even learned some new words when it happened. I always try to keep my distance when I see any trucks.
