It's STILL a Prius...

Even if it's 100% of torque is available at >0RPM. I actually test drove one while shopping for my 330 (I have an 80 mile commute). They are ugly, cheap, plasticky, tacky, uncomfortable, crappy build quality vehicles.

As to their greeness, they are harder on the environment than gas or diesel due to the fact that you have to dispose of the batteries at some point which is far more toxic than any modern gas or diesel. BMW are made from 100% recyclable materials, this is a law in Germany and if you take your door panels or trim pieces off you will see the little recycle symbols telling you which bin it goes in. Thats pretty green, and it also contrbutes to the lack of plasticky smells that you smell in all of the imports from asia

Talking

I think most of the posts are by Al Gore's son....AND we deffinitely know he was smoking!!

What they all fail to mention is that NONE OF THE OTHER CARS knew that they were in a race.

uh guys... do a search for prius performance mod.

I saw it awhile ago... in essence you cut some wires (has something to do with voltage regulation) and you now have full access to the entire battery @ 100%... instead of max 10%... ultimately if you do the mod it will make the car get shitty gas mileage (really really bad) but turn it into a 5 sec car with wider rims.

Edit: kinda like toy cars... they have 4 double aa's and they are replaced with a 9v.

Plug in hybrids are great, electricity is dirt cheap and can be produced from clean tech (solar, wind etc.)

I'd like to see a plug in hybrid with a disiel engine acting as the backup generator.

No freaking doubt. Plenty o' tree hugging hippies driving Prius(pl. Prii?) and such here in this 'green' state. Sometimes they really piss me off. Don't they know that trying to save the environment/world doesn't make a damn bit of difference? I mean, isn't it supposed to end in 2012 anyway? Joke's on them.

ok, just in case you are yet again trying to be cool and really didnt put me on the ignore list. I think someone who is a great deal older than me isn't acting it.

To whoever else thinks this thread is useless then move on. Many find it amusing that owners of Prius' think they are driving race cars. But as stated this is similar to how some act on here

Well, according to MSN NBC: "Al Gore III, 24, was driving a blue Toyota Prius about 100 mph on the San Diego Freeway when he was pulled over at about 2:15 a.m., Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jim Amormino said. The deputies said they smelled marijuana and searched the car, Amormino said. They found less than an ounce of marijuana along with Xanax, Valium, Vicodin and Adderall..."

I think hybrids are overhyped, too, but the research that showed a hybrid to consume more energy compared to some SUVs, including the Hummer, was a little skewed. First it divided the energy used in developing the Prius only across the Priuses sold to date, and the costs of building factories, etc. in the same fashion. Second it assumed that Priuses would last only for 100,000 miles. That may be true of the batteries, but not the car itself. I don't imagine they'll be crushing every Prius on the day it hits 100K.

Since the Prius hasn't been around for long, and the technology under the hood is almost equally new, the results of such studies are skewed dramatically in favor of old designs using old technology. Clearly Toyota is going to leverage this energy and dollar investment over many hybrids for many years to come, and as it does so the math used in comparing the Hummer to the Prius will become more and more inaccurate. The most energy efficient vehicle produced according to this study was the Jeep Wrangler, simply by virtue of it being an ancient design.

I don't know if the guys on that prius board are smoking pot but let's not call the prius a tortoise. its electric engine is capable of 295 lb/ft at 400 rpm. no wonder some of the fastest cars like the tesla are based off an electric engine. i don't think the 335 vs. the prius would be a hands down for the 335 especially given the 335's poor throttle response.
