im with those who say don't buy any bmw, even if mommy and daddy are paying for it. will they also pay for repairs (oil change $100!!!)? insurance could be expensive too. even with a part time job, it could be hard to manage. It also requires top tier gas which could be also add to you never having any money.

get something cheaper and wait until you can get an M! wish I would've saved a couple more years and did that. good luck and have fun with whatever you choose

Well there you go OP. We have our answers. Buy the slower car as it is more fun to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a fast car slow.

Thank you those of you who helped.. With the advice so far, I will go with cheaper BMW. Also, final question, what would an acceptable milage be for a used E90?

Why does it already say you have an E92 335i? And if you're going to get an E90 please get one with the sport package. Those stock wheels and 8 inch lift on the base model aren't so hot.

When I grew up maintaining good grades was my responsibility in exchange for my parents providing me with food and shelter. I must've been born into the wrong family.

"Get good grades and we will buy you a BMW!" Goddamn, that must be nice. You are being spoiled. That doesn't mean there is anything wrong with that, but the gravity of the situation is that your parents are buying you a luxury sport sedan as your first car in exchange for the fact that you paid attention in class.

Make sure you thoroughly respect and appreciate what your parents are doing here, because a LOT of kids work hard at school because it's what they are supposed to do, and aren't given any other incentive.

I know what most of you BMW enthusiasts are thinking, "Take the 335I!". I understand that it is more powerful and, in a sense, more fun to drive. Give me a service manual and I can figure it out. Anyways, I would love to hear your opinions on both cars!

Welcome to e90post Jokerone. People on here tend to get off topic especially when someone mention about buying a bmw at a young age. Don't take it personal Since you (or your parents) have the money to buy you a car in that range....I would just go with 335i. Even though 335i is significantly faster, the 328i is definitely not a slow vehicle. So either car would get you into a lot of trouble if you are not responsible. But given that you are a straight A's student with AP classes, I would imagine you have a pretty good sense of responsibility, I say either car would be fine for you. If you got the money and can afford it, why setttle for less?

lmaooooo

@OP 328i is cheaper to maintain and more reliable than the 335i. Latter is faster obviously but 328i is still a quick and agile enough car for the streets.

get the fuck out. I drove a 1998 beat up paint peeling piece of shit for my first car..
although, if you can get a BMW for your first car on your parents dime, I guess go for it. 328i is for you. you would not be able to handle the 335i. that car would be dangerous for inexperienced driver such as yourself.

If I remember correctly, when I set up this account it had me select a car. The 335i is currently belongs to my father, so I put that as my car.

That e90 is tempting. Only 30k miles and 10k price.
Anyways 328i if you want trouble free miles.

Wow so much hate for the op, jealous much? Anyway, you should get the 328 it's fast enough for daily driving and the n51/n52 engine is bulletproof . You don't have to worry about anything other than routine maintenance cost.

+1. Everyone on here is making such a big deal about getting a BMW for his first car. The 328 he linked to is 11k. Yea a lot of people's parents don't buy them a car, but a lot also buy their kids 15-20k civics and no one says anything.

My e46 was my first car (paid for myself, although my parents did loan me some of the money) and it was funny how people would stereo type me just bc it's a bmw. There was a girl with a new focus once making some comment about my car. She was suprised when I told her she could have bought 2 of my car for the price of her 18k focus that her parents got her.

OP. I would go with the 328 if your set on an e90. You may also want to look into an e46. They're easier to work on, so may be a better first car to learn your way around.

+1 don't listen to negative comments. i bought my first new car when i was 19 so i was a bit older but its the same premise. people were hard on me cause i paid cash for a factory ordered 2012 mustang… always got the "your first car should be garbage". but it was my car so i did what i wanted. if you want a bmw as your first car go for it.

when it comes down to a 328 or 335… if you can afford the potential higher repairs for the 335, go with that. if not a 328 is still an amazing car

and milage wise… obviously the lower the better. i bought my 335 with 55,000km on it and that was pretty much as high as i wanted to go on a used car

My first car at the age of 17 was a Vtec Civic that had more paint filler than anything I've ever seen, plumes of blue smoke, 2 litres of engine oil per week. It was a piece of shit but I was proud of it - because I paid for it with my hard earned cash.

Something seriously wrong here. Tell your folks to just set up offshore accounts rather than stashing the cash like this!

Thanks a alot! Love the words of wisdom. Also, what milage range should I stick within for the 328i and 325i? Would under 95K be good?

I would say spend 100k. If "you" spend 95k you might be disappointed.

N55 335 if you have the cash . Single turbo , most people would agree that it is less problematic than the N54
N54 335 if you want to get it cheap and it has the twin turbo , maintenance cost may be a problem but you gotta pay to play, however with the twin turbo modding is really easy
N52 328 Decent power, nothing crazy , good daily drive , fairly reliable however there isnt much you can do to provide more power, AA tune , 3 stage intake and headers may get you to 250-260 at the crank maybe 215 at the wheels . You can probably get a newer one since they are pretty affordable .

Personally if I was you , I wouldnt get a bmw though...

I ll probably get a subaru BRZ or the genesis , or the golf GTI...

All your AP classes and you're a freshman? ...When I was in school we couldn't take AP classes until we were Juniors. You'll learn as you get older grades don't mean anything in terms of responsibility. Here's my advice. Buy (or have your parents buy) a civic for $3k. You'll learn to respect it and have a feeling for what a car actually feels like to drive by yourself. You'll hit something or crash it, I guarantee it. Then maybe when you're older buy a nicer car that you've earned.
