Reset service engine light

I'm about to get my smog check done tomorrow. How do I reset the service engine notification when it pertains to emissions check? I have an '09 135i, NO navigation.

Not familiar with SMOG testing as I do not live in CA however if you reset your SES light, your readiness monitors become "not ready" and they most likely will fail you. At least that is how state emission testing in NJ works

If its because you have some sort of catless system it likely won't work. You can get it coded out but sometimes it shows the O2 sensors as not ready as mentioned above and they will fail you for that probably.

I don't think I phrased my question correctly. The car's computer is telling me that I'm due for a State Inspection here in Texas, which is the equivalent of a smog check. After I get that done, how do I reset the computer to exactly a year from now, when I'm due for another inspection.

Do you have iDrive? Read the manual, I'm not in front of my car so I can't tell you exactly. With mine, you can go in the menu settings and change the date manually for state inspection due dates.

no matter the car, make sure it's running hot (a good 15 mins freeway driving). that'll reduce emissions significantly.

any shop can reset the cel.

It's not a check engine light.

You gotta read the manual, or post this in the 1 series forum and specify you don't have idrive. I don't know how it is for folks without idrive since I have it, and I doubt you'll get anyone to care enough here in OT.
