Leatherette on 1 series

I ordered a titanium silver 135i black leatherette interior and gray poplar wood with sports package and it should be at the dealership for pick up tomorrow. I was wondering if the leatherette on the 135i sports seats is nice or what people thought... does it make the interior look cheap or can you not tell the difference?

Any responses welcome.. thanks

In 2004, my co-worker ordered his MINI w/ leather; he let me have a spin and I too was hooked on everything about the car. I ordered one the following week.

The only difference; I ordered the leatherette for my Cooper.
I couldn't justify spending the extra coin on something that so closely matched the real look of leather. It even smelled like leather.

Bottom line, after two years my seats held up a lot better than his. In fact, mine looked new all the time. (see photo)
I liked it so much I odered it for the the 3 series and again in the 1.

Btw, 303 protectant is an awesome product!!!
I highly recommend it for everybody.
I found it in a marine/surf shop after reading about it in other forums.
It can be ordered online as well.

1. Leatherette sucks if you have a vert. It is IMMEDIATELY noticable, as the seams just don't look good, the material is rougher.

2. Leatherette will be more durable over time.

3. Boston Leather is awesomely soft.

4. You won't care unless you have another car with real cow to compare with.

5. Still, it doesn't look very good in the vert with the top down, especially the headrest seaming.

You might have a point about the c-vert...

Before ordering I’d suggest going to the dealer and checking out the swatches and/or

asking to see a new or used car on the lot to compare the two and decide for yourself.

I love my leatherette...enough said. It has been debated a ton on here. If all you want is a black interior put the extra leather money savings towards CA and powerseats or other options you are considering.

True, in a coupe. In a vert, all the 'rough' edges of the leatherette show. I'm not saying get Boston in a vert, just go check it out at the dealer with the TOP DOWN, then make your choice.

It's a tough choice. In her 135 with Boston non-sport, it's so damn comfy. When I sit in my vert with leatherette and sport, you feel so secure, there isn't as much give in the material. Different feeling too... not just looks.

If you want to save money go for the leatherette. It looks great and most people think its real leather. I sprung for the Boston leather this time because my leathette started to crack after a couple years of use. maybe I good vinyl conditioner can save this from happening. I'll condition my leather frequently and should be able to maintain it in good condition for years. At least thats what I'm hoping.

+1

Not adding the leather or premium package allowed me to add the other goodies I really wanted like sport package, HD Radio, iPod adapter, and Comfort Access and still keep the price well under 40k. I'll report back with how well I like the leatherette once I get a chance to experience it.

If you are on a tight budget like me, sport package is all you need to get a smile on your face.
