So sad. Such an icon.

Young guys driving such a special car is asking for trouble imo.

Cheers

The article did say that the shop did have insurance in case such a thing happened, as well as the fact that it could, possibly, be repaired. I'm not sure if I would want it repaired, but taking a very large check may not be the best option either.

Oh man, seeing that picture just made me feel incredibly sad. The 300SL is one of my favorite cars.

How can the owner be calm?

How?

I mean, kudos to the owner, it is just a car, but its a limited item, its not like a 458 or something where there's still production and you can easily replace it.

What do you think is going to happen to the mechanic and the other guy...I could see this owner being real calm so the police don't fully suspect him when those two go missing one day.

That would suck. I don't know if I'd be able to remain calm, but if insurance is going to take care of it, I guess that's somewhat of a consolation, along with the fact that the car will probably end up in a willing party's hands.

What dipshits though. What kind of an idiot - knowing as much about the car as he does - goes out and joyrides at/beyond the limits of the car? You'd have to be ubertarded.

Time to rebody it in aluminum, assuming it was a steel body.

The horror! I'd be pissed if it was my car, and my car is much more common (and cheap)!

I've never owned a "super car" but this is always a worry I have about dropping off a sports car at a shop. I used to always reset my peak boost log when dropping my 3000gt off and it would always be at peak boost after I picked the car up. No one is hitting 15psi from the lot to the garage to put tires on...

Probably spend more money replacing parts and fixing it, then it would to buy another one. If not, judging by the pictures, looks like the car would never drive completely straight again. If you have enough money to buy one in the first place, you have enough money to buy another.

An e36 cost $10k, throwing $100k to repair one perfect makes no sense. A Gullwing cost close or over to $1M, that's a lot of money for spare parts.
