Gt500 Or S5?

Me and a friend were debating whether more people would rather have an s5 or GT500. Both have pros and cons . Both great cars in different ways. Which would you rather have?

GT500. There is something primal about a supercharged 5.0 (for the new ones at least) that I just love.

Even I am not an Audi fan, how can you compare European with American? The ONE AND ONLY American is the Chervrolet Corvette.

S5, because the interior of mustangs is a deal breaker for me. Otherwise, the new 5.0 is "oh my god" impressive.

Given the choices you have given I would jump on the Mustang.

I was very close to buying a GT500 a couple years ago but drove both the GT500 and a C6 Vette and the C6 had to come home with me. No comparission to the Corvette, but the Mustang trumps the Audi,IMO.

Garage List
2008 135i  [6.50]
Does anyone seriously cross-shop these 2 cars? Practically the only things they have in common are that they are 2 door coupes. One is a luxury awd coupe and the other is a retro-muscle car that offers great value. I'd think you would have a better idea of what you want/need/can afford from a car first.

S5... the Mustang would have to be a second car if I already had a DD.

Alberto . MY DAWG!!

And I guess ill throw in my opinion now since I started the thread lol.
I chose the GT500. No it doesn't handle the best...No its not the best built car in the world...No the interior isn't as nice as an Audi... And no its not faster then a z06... BUT GOD DAMMIT it is FUN to drive ,and sounds SICK! And i doubt people cross shop these cars like PTACK said but I figured why not get some opinions. For anyone who HAS been in a modded GT500 I highly doubt they are unimpressed for a car that costs about $40,000 . I mean a loaded 328 is in that price range and granted they are built for different reasons COMONNNNN!!

See if this changes anyone's mind:

2011 GT500 is lapping VIR in 2:58.5, which is 9 seconds faster than the previous car.

It's not an apples to apples comparision because it's not done with neutral drivers on the same day, but just as a point of reference Car and Driver did it in 2:59 in the GT-R in 2009, and the R8 ran it in 2:59.5 in 2010.

Like it or not, for around $50k this thing is SERIOSLY fast around a racetrack.

Quote:
We know firsthand that both the 2011 Ford Mustang V6 and GT aren't just plenty quick – they're downright scary fast compared to their predecessors. It should follow, that the king of the heap 2011 GT500 should be similarly faster than the 2010 model. Let's just go ahead and call that one an understatement. Ford just dropped a tasty video on the interwebs showing the car lapping one of our favorite tracks – Virginia International Speedway.

Ford's engineers had it in their minds that the new aluminum block with its 120-pound weight savings should help the car click off the 4.1-mile Grand West portion of the track about three seconds quicker than the outgoing car. Thing is, the 2011 GT500 managed to lap the track in 2:58.5 – a full nine seconds faster than last year's version.

S5. I love the power but i just cannot live with a car that i feel is half baked and compromised fundamentally. Image is a consideration too.

I'd take a GT500.

The interior fit and finish is pretty good, except for the radio buttons but can be easily changed:

And these shots of the exterior are nice:

And the performance seems to be good. If I were looking for a comparable car, I'd probably take a look at a CTS-V, and if 4 seats are not needed and performance is the goal, a used Corvette would do.

This is a tough one...I like both cars a lot, but I might have to choose the
GT500. S5's are now starting to become a dime a dozen around here now a days where GT500s are still pretty rare.
