One word... marketing.

yea, more megapixels just means you can get a bigger picture while maintaining the resolution.

It's getting to the point where the megapixels aren't even useable anymore. The resolution of the sensor is exceeding the resolution of the lenses. It's becoming a waste.

i deff. believe that, so we need some sort of break through lens technology.

They all suck. Nikon, Canon, any digital. The whole camera runs off the battery, unlike a manual where they can last for years.

I have the battery grip for my D200 that holds 2 batteries. I have a total of 4 that I keep charged all the time. Gets me at least 2 days of heavy shooting before re-charging. I don't know if they make a grip for the D40 or entry level Canon. I would doubt it.

Yea haha, you should see the battery pack my friend has for his canon 1d mark ii, its like a giant brick!!! And even that things life sucks, he needs it do multipe burst shots with his speedlite 580 flash. But yea man, deff dont make battery life the determining factor.....like we said before, go for user interface, feel, and features (i left quality out because thats a WHOLE other debate about sensors vs sensors and this lens and that lens).

Go here

http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech.htm

nerd around for awhile. I get lost for hours reading his site. It's full of information, but in the end, just buy a camera and start learning to use it. The camera doesn't matter!

It's not listed as a current camera, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't consider. I don't have any experience with any of the 40/50/XT/XTi product.

Read www.kenrockwell.com/tech , or just buy one and play with it. There are advantages to be had with the D200/5D, but at this point the glass is more valuable to you than the body. If you can get a D50 or D70s used, go for it, and spend the saved $$$ on a lens or two.
