Is the Nürburgring a joke?

I think the track is a joke. It's less challenging than many Canadian roads in Western Canada. The only danger is that there are no speed limits and you have to be careful of other crazy less experienced drivers crashing into you. I truly believe that I can complete the track the first time in less than 10 minutes.

I believe those who live in areas where everything is flat and the roads are all straight with very little curves, and if you're going to drive the Nürburgring for the first time, it's going to be heck challenging. I grew up driving roads that are 2-3 times tougher than the ring. How about driving in mountain roads with snow, black ice and rain, and if you wipe out, you're fall a few hundred feet down the mountain. Canadian roads, anything West of the Rocky Mountains are way more challenging than the Nürburgring for sure.

Well to be fair, the Nurburgring is also a b*tch to drive in when it's covered in snow or rain.

Yes, that's true for any roads. I really hate slushy wet roads. Snow doesn't bother me, little snow on the roads that is, even on a RWD car with snow tires. But slushy snow just little above the freezing level can be challenging. Rain doesn't bother me even on Nürburgring style curves.

I think I can probably complete the Nürburgring in a stock BMW E46 320i in less than 10 minutes on a empty track for the first time. Yeah, I'm that confident.

Well you're a godly driver I guess.

Watch AutoCar's Chris Harris drive his M3 on the nurburgring in the snow. He can barely touch the throttle without the thing oversteering.

are you kidding? the ring? a joke? the ring is arguably the most challenging course in the world and all major car manufacturers in Germany test their and many manufacturers from other countries. I don't know what kind of roads you have in Canada, but the ring is insanely narrow (2 cars wide on some sections) and almost all turns are blind with pretty much only one section thats completely straight. the ring is 12.9 miles and contains 100 corners. unless you are driving a space ship, a sub 10 minute lap from a amateur is pretty damn impossible.

2 cars wide on some sections is not narrow. I drive on roads where it's one car wide mountain roads with steep inclines and declines with a lot of curves. Yes, a lot of the mountain roads I drive have turns that are blind. Sabine Schmitz almost made a 10 minute mark with a Ford Transit.

I hear a lot of story people crashing their car on the ring, so I don't think the ring is a joke. Btw, what road you talking about? Tail of the dragon (I think thats what it is called)?

Um, Sabine Schmidz has driven the ring probably more than anyone, I wouldn't really say she is a rookie by any stretch so not quite sure where you were going with that...

You have to have some epic balls to be going all out on the ring. Take this guy for instance.

Wow...bold claim.

How much actual track time have you had? HPDS?
