What good does it do in the glovebox....Its always on my person..and no if you open the glovebox to show an officer a gun youre an idiot...I always identify myself as an off duty officer and I have credentials and let them know I am armed and where it is at...I keep my hands on the sterring wheel and let them decide the course of action in handling the situation...

Thats just a courtesy to them, just like cutting the engine off, rolling all windows down, and turning the interior lights on...

Any respectful off duty officer will do that

I live in Beirut and I don't carry a weapon.... :S

the only car theft at gun point happens very rarely here and in bad (read Palestinian) neighbors, and it is done using a crew of 5-6 armed to the teeth with AK47s
pulling out a gun is a sure way to get killed.
just give them the car, ask them politely if you can keep your house keys, and all is well.
insurance pays you back the full price of the car.

Watch out though, many times they play themselves as police.

I don't carry anything because I see two problems:

1. I'd probably be pulling it out WAY too early, like when some jackass starts yelling obsenties, or starts getting out of his car. (though, actually, many are just assholes that deserve to get shot anyways)

2. I live in California...San Francisco...I'm afraid I'd be arrested for any using any weapon, regardless of the situation.

I'm originally from NJ, and now live in one of the lowest crime cities in the country. I just have a pocket knife in the center console.
Someone would have to shoot me before they take my car. There's also nothing of value inside.
