Honda announces recall over airbag fault

Posted 1 hour 24 minutes ago

In another damaging setback for the car industry, Honda has confirmed it is recalling almost 400,000 vehicles in the United States.

The recall includes the popular Accord and Civic models and applies to 2001 and 2002 models.

The move is an extension of two earlier recalls intended to resolve a defect relating to airbags.

To date Honda has identified 12 cases of driver side airbags over-inflating and then bursting, scattering small metal fragments.

In one case the malfunction proved fatal.

Honda engineers have sought to resolve the problem, but in its statement the company admits it cannot be completely certain its airbags will perform as designed.

The Honda recall comes as Japanese car maker Toyota announces a recall of 400,000 hybrid cars world-wide, including 2,400 of its Prius models in Australia.

I am laughing at the Honda owners who talk shit about Toyota's brake problems. Then ends up getting bit in their ass..

now is the time for everyone to fix their cars. you don't want to be all alone later down the road with a recall when everyone fixed their problems already.

Agreed. I used to knock "ricers" before I found out what a heap of shit my last American vehicle really was. After that epiphany, I've come to realize that these huge Asian recalls are trumped by how pathetically shitty domestic cars are.

As far as I know, these recalled cars were made in other countries like U.S. and Canada. I guess it should be expected that their quality isn't too far from the Ford and Chevy being made next door.

this is actually kinda true, none of the JDM Camry are affected by the recall. But JDM Prius is tho.

It's getting clearer that america is ripping japanese cars apart to give some air to american car manufacturer. I hope they can use this opportunity to catapult back.
