Garmin is Stalling and Freezing

I have the Garmin nuvi 855 wired to my car through the sunroof. It will turn on and show the "GARMIN" welcome screen, but other than that it just doesn't work. If I do get past the welcome screen, I won't be able to press any of the buttons on the screen, it just seems 'frozen'. I've tried restarting it but same deal.

What could this be?

Mine worked fine, until one day it suddenly started behaving like yours.
Went to the Garmin website and downloaded an update for it.

actually retuned mine last week after a month when this started happening. Got me another 255w at no charge.
