They have multiple sonar bouys deployed that have a range of 13,000ft. Issue is, if it was a systems failure, if there is nothing to create noise there is nothing for sonar to pick up.

You think Leonardo Dicaprio is involved?

Travel time over the ocean for any possible underwater rescue vehicle that might be available greatly exceeds the amount of oxygen on-board.

I'm curious if the "pilot" slash CEO had a ship's master (captain's) license to carry passengers in a boat?????

apparently this whole company is a gigantic mess...

the sub is like a cheap tube with windows that don't meet the pressure depth requirements because the CEO said it wasn't necessary... and it's controlled by a $30 Logitech controller

Probably not, because international maritime regulations will be revised to close whatever loophole(s) this tourist submarine was operating under.....

Eh, I don't think the controller is really anything worth noting. You'd be surprised how many high value, high cost, high tech things are controlled by a cheap off the shelf controller, and its common to see simple xbox or playstation controllers because, well, they work and aren't over-complicated. They are just buttons, switches, and axis that send a signal.

I did see that this company was under scrutiny not long ago about how deep their subs can safely go. After reading some about the company I suspect this was the result of complacency and arrogance. Complacency with not being thorough with maintenance checks and safety equipment, and arrogance with thinking they can push the boundaries and get away with it.

If banging was heard, why can't they "answer back?" Surely they can generate a loud enough noise that will propagate all directions to hopefully trigger another round so they can zero in? It would also provide significant trauma relief to know someone is looking if it's heard.

My understanding, and it may be wrong, but depending on the depth, and with being in a pressurized capsule, the human ear wouldn't pick up the vibrations (sound), at least not very easily. The sound wave won't easily transfer from the water through the hull and then to the ear. If a person was in the water they may hear a noise because the sound wave will transfer from the water directly to the ear drum, but even then it would depend on distance. Thats with the assumption systems are offline and they don't have sonar in the sub.

Again, thats how I understand it, I may be wrong, or it may be a bad way to explain it.

Basically the "sub" was some tin can pos with all kinds of issues and components not rated for the depths they were going. When told this the CEO said fuck off with that negative nancy shit and fired the dude inspecting it.

So yeah... that shit imploded at the bottom of the ocean.

Sooner or later, the same thing will happen with space tourism. NO ROOM FOR ERROR!

DOD, NSA, DARPA can find it but the technology is classified so they won’t.

The risk of losing the technology is too great. As sad as it is, the risk is not worth the reward.

Like I said earlier, it took 2 weeks to locate the Titanic (not a small object) using very high tech side scan sonar even knowing the general location of the wreck. It takes a couple of hours just to dive to the bottom. This is literally a needle in a very deep haystack.
