This 335i owner is looking forward to the next gen turbo M3, but in the meantime...

I've had my 335i coupe for two years now, and LOVE it. I don't know about the rest of you, but when I went to test drive the E92 M3, I was a little disappointed. The lack of torque after driving the 335i was really apparent. The suspension, steering and handling were definitely improved and the engine note is amazing, but even so I couldnt help but feel a little disappointed. I drove the 6MT and the DCT. I definitely preferred the 6MT, the DCT was not quite up to the same level as other twin clutch systems. Anyway, I'm sure BMW also realize that they may have screwed the pooch on this one, judging by the articles hinting that BMW will be moving to turbos for the next gen M cars! I will be waiting. In the meantime, for not much more than an M3, I got a GT-R. What a car! I urge anyone contemplating getting an M3 to test drive the GT-R, especially coming from a 335i. Turbo charging is definitely the way to go.

Thumbs up

Nowadays Nissan GTR is the best value for the money on the market IMHO
It's not even fair to compare it to any BMW production, since it aims straight to supercars standards
The GTR is meant to be put against the finest Porsche productions, such as GT2 and GT3, stuff meant to be brought to the Nurburgring and driven until they melt
And, once again, if you think that a GTR is half the price of a "regular" 997 turbo well, let's just say that the real car enthusiast with real driving abilities/ambitions will march straight towards the GTR, while the dude aiming just at fast chicks will get the 997 turbo

Here in northern CA.... the dealer in Concord (as of a month ago) had sold 7 of them (with a 20K markup.. so 90k total) ... and had two on the showroom floor...

No test drives there... but they certainly took interest in me and believed i was interested in possibly trading in the 335i (not that i would.. the BMW is too nice inside relative to the GTR (IMHO)) ....

But they did have those two available for anyone that wanted to pay 'a little' extra...

i must say, they are better looking in person than in pictures... but the huge fat tips on the exhaust, with clearly much smaller actual pipes inside (when viewed from the back) screams 'cheap' to me.... of course i've never kept the stock exhaust on any car I owned... so maybe that isn't a problem....

Can you tell if you got it off 635/Tollway @ "B" Nissan?
They "had" one just like yours.

Grats!

Anyone paying over sticker is nuts. All over the place for sticker if you look. Then you see the butt knockers asking $120,000 too. Uh....OK!

Those beasts go for about sticker price online, eBay, etc with little to no mileage, even new. It's worth the $20k+ savings if you ask me.

Looks are subjective, but if they made the styling a little better, I would consider it over an M3.

I've heard the GTR is alittle rough as a daily driver. Can you comment at all on this? And be realistic please, if its rough but livable I would count that as being rough.

Also, I'm interested what you payed for it. Since after Nissan jacked the MSRP on the GTR up, the car now costs $77k. I wouldn't say that is realistically the same price range as the M3 any more, since buyers have reported buying M3's at invoice around in the low $60k's.

As for the next M3 being TT. I wouldn't say that BMW screwed the pooch on the e92. The V8 M3 is a last hurrah for their NA engines.

If we only just recently heard about them using Turbo's on the next gen M's cars (Oct. 2008) you can bet that internally BMW M division knew about this change even before the current M3 went on sale. (Oct 2007 in Europe, March 2008 in US)
