Accidentally popped off rear view mirror assembly, how to reattach?

I was trying to adjust my rear view mirror yesterday (it's the auto-dimming one with homelink, if that matters) and accidentally popped the whole assembly off the windshield. I've looked up guides here on how to reattach it, but I can't seem to get the mirror assembly to slot into the piece on the windshield to then turn it. I'm thinking I may need to do something a little different since I popped the assembly straight off instead of turning it to release it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get it back on?
