Cylinder Count
Peter Egan wrote, a while back in Road & Track, about measuring one's masculinity by cylinder count--i.e., adding up the cylinders in all your internal combustion vehicles, equipment, toys and the like. I think he was tops among his friends once he threw in the weed eater-powered blender that he carries in his plane.
So, just for fun let's see who has too many toys and/or too much to do here on Bimmerpost. Let's specify that it must be in running order to count. And, if any of those cylinders are in a Prius, subtract 1 just on principle . I'm at 46 right now--gotta sell the Mini, and get the kids off the payroll (and into their own cars) to get the count down!

In my book, 19 makes you smart. I remembered the article and did the math the other day when I was in the garage contemplating the rear brakes that need to go on one vehicle, the front brakes that need to go on another, wondering how to shuffle the two cars that need preventative water pump replacements (on the heels of an almost-catastrophic, early pump failure on yet another), the need for the Mini to go in the body shop to have a dent removed so we can sell it before its recently rebuilt CVT craps out, trying not to think about the fact that the X3’s a/c isn’t working because the evaporator is probably leaking, thinking that I’ve had time to drive the Z4MC maybe twice in the last three months, needing to repair the failed drive control cable on one of the mowers, and trying to de-bug the erratic bilge pump on the boat. Feeling kind of overwhelmed, hoping there are others out there who also have themselves in over their heads.
And, hoping there’s someone out there with something wackier than 2-stroke, 12,000 rpm Margaritas. Quote:
Wish I could find the original Peter Egan column online; he’s a terrific, sentimental and sometimes whimsical writer and “dumb as hell” isn’t something one would usually attribute to him. (If that was instead aimed at me, well then that’s a different story altogether…)

I always felt that having a good friend with a boat is better than having my own boat!

My friends and I play this game all the time.
I have 49 total count. Maybe it's important to know who has what engine configurations to judge manliness. Mine are: Straight 4 Straight 6 V6 Flat 6 V8 V-twin Straight 4 diesel 2-stroke single 4-stroke single 4-stoke single that uses 2-stroke fuel (Stihl 4-Mix engine) |

And let's not forget there are some who will even include their 2/4-stroke air compressors in their tally too. LOL! *smacks forehead*
