I hate it whenever I see a friend of mine, he starts to talk how much more horse power and cheaper a Hyundai Sonata is than my car, 325i. I always tell him "every car has a different quality and build differently. Lets leave it at that." Then he would give more praise to every Hyundai and Japanese car for being much cheaper and having more horsepower. I just really dunno what to say just to shut him up.

its kinda dumb to compare german car to japanese... german cars are way better than japanese. you dont have to prove him anything you like what you have, you like it better than his car, you know it is a better car, that is it. just let him talk because he is trying to convince himself that hyundai is a better car, RELAX

Hyundai?! Don't make me laugh. They're just another shmucky, poorly designed, economy-class point A to point B car! Which drives better? Which is made with better quality? Which holds its value longer? Which has that sex appeal? Which has better style?

The only thing I hear from people that like asian cars is, "It has more horsepower than german/american car X." Please, look at what ford did with the GT500.

More HP is definitely not everything.

Just ignore ignorant people. If he's looking for real performance tell him to bring his Hyundai/Lexus/Infiniti/Mitsubishi/Subaru over to the track against the 2008 M3.

the OP said it right and handled it right. I have a sonata and a 3 series. right off the bat the sonata was 18k out the door. The sonata is bigger, rides great, has resonable performance for a 4cylinder , the automatic locks up all the time, gas mileage wont be as good as the bmw but its still good. obviously if people pay more for a car they should get more.

no reason to hate, we all have our reasons for our cars, and for the OP who's friend owns a sonata he's proud of his car/value though he shouldnt say its the end all be all

Not everyone is fortunate enough to afford a nice car and one shouldn't poke fun about that - but...it sounds like the simple fact is your friend is jealous. There really isn't any comparison between the two cars - economy car vs. luxury car.

I don't know how much HP those cars have, but even if his had more it doesn't matter. He's just looking for excuses to make his car appear better than yours. Plenty of people do this when they are jealous...they try to make you feel bad about what you have - misery loves company.

Just ignore it - if he's your friend then blow it off and let him say what he wants, everyone else knows Hyundai's are junk. Don't tell me he couldn't afford anything else - hyundai is what ...20,000$ or so? He could have gotten a used e36 m3, a used bmw of some sort...or even a new civic (they are better).

I wish people would quit their cryin.

You just have to get used to it. And as a corollary to that - some people don't know how to handle jealously maturely and will look for any reason to hate on you. So keep your cool, don't get cocky, and let them look dumb struggling to find little things to attempt to make you feel inferior. In other words, just ignore your friend's hate-bait.

As someone pointed out, Hyundai is Korean.

And without comparing (I obviously am partial to BMWs) I think the Sonatas are really great cars. Hyundai has been doing some neat things lately.
