2013 FIM MotoGP: Valencia

Let's do motoGP in the F1/E90Slam style:

Jorge Lorenzo has one the past two MotoGP's, Motegi and Australia. He has been able to hold off Marc Marquez from winning the World Champshionship.
With one race to go in the season, and with Marquez one win away from the championship title, can Lorenzo win a third race?

Introduction:

The Circuito de la Comunitat Valenciana was completed in 1999 and held rounds of the MotoGP and Spanish Motorcycle Championships in the same year. The Cheste track has several layouts, running anti-clockwise with varying lengths. MotoGP events are held on a 4km track comprising of five right handed corners, eight left handers and a 650m straight. Although the track is regarded as quite small, the pit complex contains 48 garages whilst the stadium style grandstands can seat up to 150,000 spectators. The circuit layout which allows all parts of the circuit to be seen from any stand helps to create a unique atmosphere enjoyed by Spanish and international riders alike and as the last race of the season there is always a party feeling to the Grand Prix, which was voted best GP of 2005 by IRTA

It is 30 laps and 74.7 miles long.

Circuit info
Length: 4.005 m / 2.489 miles

Width: 12m

Left corners: 9

Right corners: 5

Longest straight: 876 m / 0.544 miles

Constructed: 1999

Modified: N/A

From Autosport.com:

Marc Marquez not concerned by Jorge Lorenzo's MotoGP title surge
Thursday, October 31st 2013, 12:25 GMT

Marc Marquez insists he is not worried about Jorge Lorenzo's run of form heading into what he says will be an 'interesting' MotoGP championship decider at Valencia.

Marquez has won only once in the past six races - while Lorenzo has triumphed four times – and was also disqualified for a pit infringement at Phillip Island, meaning a 44-point lead over Lorenzo has been trimmed to 13 with one race left.

The Spanish rookie admits he was unable to live with Lorenzo's pace last time out at Motegi, but says his desire was also limited by his still-healthy championship margin.

"In the race [at Motegi] I had good confidence from the beginning, but then every lap I felt more on the limit," he said.

"I tried to overtake Jorge but I saw that there was too much risk and then in the end when he pushed a little bit more I felt I was too much on the limit.

"I had two big moments and then I said 'OK, it's much better to take 20 points for the championship'.

"Now Valencia will be interesting. I must just concentrate on my job, on my bike and try to do my best.

"We cannot forget that it's my first season and that [the title] was not the target but, anyway, we will try 100 per cent to get it."

Marquez has previous form at Valencia, having pulled off a remarkable victory from the back of the field in his 2012 title-winning Moto2 campaign

I was there in sept 2001 when Sete Gibernau won and flew the US flag in support of the people devastated by 9-11 on his victory lap, the crowd went ballistic shouting USA in spanish. A fantastic track with some of the best roads in Europe on the way there.

Marquez has this! All he needs is what, a 4th place finish, to seal the deal??!!!! I'd just ride around at 7/10's and take the WC.

problem with that is it is harder to ride at 7/10 when everyone else is 10/10 you can get caught up with more traffic than you need.

Agreed, but as long as he's in the top 3, he won't have to put in 10/10 laps. He just needs to make sure he's on the podium (..which, given his season, shouldn't be difficult at all).

I would not be surprised if MM lets Lorenzo set the pace for the race and just follows him home from 2nd with Pedrosa running blockage from 3rd

This weekend guys!

From motoGP:

"Marquez is of course the standings leader going into the final round with a 13 point advantage over reigning World Champion Lorenzo.

Below are the scenarios with regard to the how the championship can be decided on Sunday at the Gran Premio Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana:

- If Lorenzo wins the race then Marquez needs to finish fourth or better to become World Champion.

- If Lorenzo finishes second then Marquez needs to finish eighth or better to become World Champion.

- If Lorenzo finishes third then Marquez needs to finish 12th or better to become World Champion.

- If Lorenzo finishes fourth then Marquez needs to finish 15th or better to become World Champion.

- If Lorenzo does not finish in the top four then Marquez will automatically be World Champion, whatever his own result."

And BIG Rossi news:
After 14 seasons working together in the World Championship Valentino Rossi and his Crew Chief Jeremy Burgess will part ways following this weekend’s Gran Premio Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana

I think Marquez wins. He just set the lap record in practice.

I'm pretty shocked about the Rossi/Burgess split. As much as I love Vale, I think he's at the 'Schumi' point where he has nothing else to prove and might want to consider hanging it up. As a side note, Ben Spies just announced his retirement from motorcycle racing.

Yep, great race except for the last 5 or so laps. I think Marquez knew he had it wrapped up and didn't want to risk binning it. I can't blame him for that.

The scary thing is that Marquez's little brother is lurking out there too, and is supposedly BETTER than his older brother.

I'll reiterate Vale should hang it up. His time has come, and he has nothing to prove. If he leaves now, he goes down in history as the GOAT with his legacy untainted.

His older brother is a world champ. The younger guy is not. So it's easy to see who's better.

He'll be the "GOAT" whether he leaves now or not. He's STILL the 4th best rider in the world this season. Hang up the leathers? Ehhhhh...not quite yet.

Indeed, could have been handled much better considering how long they've been together.

Sounds like he in the denial camp.
"It can't be the bike as Jorge is proving it's fast enough, and it can't be me, as I'm a legend, so it must be my Crew Chief is the reason I'm not the fastest out there anymore......"

It's not about his crew chief not doing his job. He wants to mix things up after having had the same people and the same formula for quite some time now. He and Burgess will remain friends and they both have mutual respect for each other. He can't kep doing the same thing and expect a different result and to beat Lorenzo and the Repsol guys in 2014
