Picked up a new vehicle and went west.

A while back there was a thread about some motorcycles and a Range Rover. My interest was peaked and i ordered one... last November.

A little more than a month ago, i was sent on a sabbatical from OT, and by sabbatical i mean had access to OT restricted, and by restricted i mean banned from OT. In that time frame i picked up the new Range Rover Sport supercharged and promptly plotted a road trip to the high alpine loop in Southwestern Colorado.

My father spent 2 weeks every summer in Colorado with his parents as kid. So he and i went out there and visited some of his old stomping grounds. Of course i took some pictures of the proper break in.

We went from FL to Longview TX, to Santa Fe NM, to Durango CO, to Silverton CO, to Telluride CO, to Gunnison CO, to Pueblo CO, to Little Rock, and back to FL. About 4400 miles in total over the course of 8 days. It was a pretty awesome trip. We even traveled some of old RT66 in NM.

It's hard for me to imagine a better road trip vehicle. Quite, comfortable, able to hit 135mph effortlessly while feeling solid and can then traverse Rocky Mountain trails rated for high clearance 4x4 vehicles only. I'm really liking it so far.

Pick up day.

Heading up one of the passes.

Road down the back side of the mountain.

Sweet, been to most of the places you mentioned. Did you ride the train up to Silverton? I like camping in the San Juan Forest. I think my wife and I may do the same thing in the new Cayenne (it's on the things you recently bought thread or in the M5 forum if curious). I like the look of the Range Rover.

Awesome pictures worthy of being printed. I like the look of the full size range rover more but this this is much better than its predecessor.

Am curious for the rationale behind the forced sabbatical....but anyways, we have a Land Rover and are really liking it as well. Congrats on the RR - looks great!

We went on the RR experience in Montebello Quebec - I was amazed at what these things are capable of off road. And we weren't even on the difficult course. We took out an RR supercharged too for that - it was a little odd going through the forest with big trees literally inches from each side on a truck that costs around $100K. Did you get a free coupon to do this with your purchase?

We saw a TON of jeeps, but only 2 range rovers, and they both waved at me. Of course this was around Telluride.

My first time visiting the most beautiful part of Colorado; will do again! We didn't ride the train, my father has ridden the train several times, so we side stepped it and went looking for the trails, ghost towns, etc... Congrats on the Cayenne! Looks awesome!

Thanks, its funny to me that before getting this i though the 2013 RRS was so hot looking. Now it kind of looks old...but still hot.

Thanks, my local LR dealer tells me they have many of them on their Facebook page.

I posted a picture of one of those things you take camping with you. It helps you make wood into usable items, shortens rope, splits fabric into multiple pieces, it even will help you start a fire. I also posted a picture of a custom plastic container for storing it when not in use.

I think that all LR vehicles are capable of so much more than most are aware of. There is a friend of mine who has a 79 bronco on 40" tires. He goes out to this mud bog where people go and actually pay money to run around through their mud pit. He said there is a RR that shows up about once a month with 22" wheels and drops right into the mud and just slowly crawls through it, with street tires no less. The same mud where many mud trucks get stuck. They really have done an amazing job with the traction control.

It's funny because 3 days after getting back from our trip, i got an email from LR inviting me to their Great Divide adventure which is a 9 day trip that visited some of the same trails, towns, and even hotels we visited and stayed at. It's a steal at $13,000 per couple.

A short video of what many of the shelf roads looked like. We had to pass some people on roads like this. Which involved one of us backing down or back up the mountain to find a suitable place to pass. This view point is from under the drives side mirror. My father was thrilled that i was taking video while driving.

Great so now camping equipment is unmentionable.

Are you loving the Durango?!? I saw lots of those on the road trip as well. They look sweet! I've heard the interior was a huge surprise from most who looked at them.

Not sure if I can talk about the Durango as technically it could be used as camping equipment.

The wife keeps bugging for an X3/5. I told her if we go that big, we are jumping ship to Land Rover, at least for a test drive. The local dealer has an "off-road" track in the back of the lot

Dude awesome trip and photos ... Definitely appropriate for the RR. Inspiring, in fact, seeing the beauty and no paved roads.

Congrats and enjoy in good health - you were right to do this out west. The closest thing in FL is probably a swamp!

I think they all do. Stop in for a test drive. You won't even have to ask, they love taking people over those things.

I've been to Denver, Breck, Keystone, Estes Park, Steamboat, etc... but never been to the southwest. It was very cool to see all the different colors in the mountains. One of the prettiest places i've seen in the States. I'm ready to head back out there already!
