OCD

Anyone have a minor case of OCD? While I can’t say I “suffer” from OCD. I do have a few issues I thought of seeing a doc about.

Case#1: All of my bills have to facing the same direction.

Case#2: Whenever I look at a license plate or telephone number on a billboard I find myself totaling up the numbers.

Case#3: When walking throughout the house I’m constantly counting the amount of steps I take. I know it takes me 14 steps to get from the living room couch to the kitchen. Always has, always will. But still feel the need to count them.

Now I’ve witnessed some severe cases of OCD. Like excessive hand washing, flushing of toilets, brushing of hair etc. While my cases don’t affect my personal relationships or job performance. I am curious to get a professional opinion. Am I alone here? Am I crazy? Hence 2011CrazE89 . There has to be a few of you with similar cases.

I have a numbers OCD. I like even numbers, hate odd numbers. Ironically enough, 9 has always been my number playing ice hockey growing up. However, TV sound must be an even number, microwave or oven times need to be even.

I also like things stacked perfectly square. Items must be in their respectable "place" and I get very irritated when they are moved.

Thread title should be CDO. That way it's alphabetical!

Seriously though, I agree with OP on the first one. The bills in my wallet must face the same way. And when my kids put the dishes away they put the glasses in the cabinet all random. They must be lined up!

Why pay a doc - what would you get out of it? The "prestige" of saying you have clinical OCD - if such a thing exists?

Nothing sounds overly concerning, we all have foibles / odd character traits, except for me - mine are just endearing qualities.

I wouldn't pay a doc for what you are describing.

And yes, some might say I have OCD, but if so, its really only about certain things. They have to be logical, ordered, patterns if a pattern exists (otherwise I'll re-arrange it so it is in order). Among other things of course.

X2

Everything on my desk has to be exactly parallel with other things, and perpendicular with the edge of the desk. I also have to wash my hands with soap after eating anything, even like a single rice cake.

And being super clean. Ohhh man, that is a bad one.

I absolutely hate dirty dishes in the sink. If they are in the sink and I see them, I clean them. I don't know why. If our dish rack is full, I empty that too. I like to have the kitchen counter cleaned, even if we just ate out and have no intentions of using any more dishes.

I do the same thing with bills in my wallet. All facing the same direction, with the largest bill on the inside. No idea why but it bugs me if they are mashed in there.

We all do odd things. When I'm at the gym, I do everything in sets of 11. In my car, the A/C always has to be set to an even number. Same with the volume of my amp. I hate dirty car interiors and have a microfiber so I can clean it when I'm at the stop light. And if anyone even dares to talk during a movie, I'd rather not see the movie at all. Bye!

Wow, I'm the polar opposite of most of you. I live in disorder. Clothes pile up on the chair in my home office, my desk gets cluttered, the end table beside my recliner gets loaded up with mail, remotes, my phone, etc. I'm definitely an Oscar Madison type.

I'd say the one thing that gets me is lights on in a room when there's no need. Wifey turns on every light in every room she walks into and then leaves them on. Sometimes I come home and find most lights in the house are on. So I walk around turning them off. I don't even say anything to her anymore because it's become such an old discussion.

Volume always has to be set to an even number or a multiple of five. Same with the AC in my car.

I am the same way with the bills in my wallet.

Any time I see a messy pile of paper I have to straighten it.

I'm a mess, but I can't take it when people don't eat right. I can't eat in a restaurant here, since Americans don't use knifes with forks. It drives me insane. Completely insane.

An other is, that food layout can't be slobby, or I just don't eat.

Have you seriously never had a Sloppy Joe?

And no, it is not one of my typical American sexual innuendos, either.

I wouldn't google it if you don't know, because the internet may have turned it into a sexual innuendo without my knowledge.

I googled that one, and no way in hell could I even watch one of those being eaten.

It's the fork and knife thing mostly, but elbows at the table also drive me insane. And for crying out loud if I have to sit in a table where someone talks with food in their mouth. I know this all is starting to be an obsession, but I just get worse and worse every year. I have kicked my own mother out of Christmas dinner for opening her mouth while eating.

Okay, it was more the stuff she said, but still the satisfaction was real.

I'm the loudest eater in the world. Everyone tells me. Just livin' muh life, eatin' muh food, enjoying the shit out of it. Granted I chew with my mouth closed, I still chomp it down to the nitty gritty with these powerful Tyrannosaurus jaws.

Also, Americans are relatively stone age. We prefer finger food. Eating utensils are for the educated and high class.

I remember going out on a date with this American bloke almost ten years ago (back home), and I remember thinking to myself that there is no way I will ever do this again. I think I ended the night with the lovely words "I certainly hope you enjoy Finland, but no way will I be the one showing it to you". After that I called my best friend and told him that I will never even go to America.

Something went wrong in my life.

I actually require a knife to eat properly. I get really mad when people give me a lonely fork.

Nice one Stealth, and I agree, nowadays everyone wants a diagnose instead of just accepting that we all are different.

Nice! I thought i was weird about the tv sound being an even number. I will never have mine on 17/19/21/etc..... It always has to be on a even number even if that makes it too loud or not enough, no exceptions. Im the same way with my thermostat at home lol.
