I’ve just paid £800 for my Macan. The 420D was £790 but with half the excess for this year. However my previous insurer wanted and additional £600 to change the car on the policy. It’s madness.

I’ve ended up with Allianz for this year and cancelled the other policy. And that was a whole other scandal. After 74 days on cover; I’d have got £388 of my initial £792 back. Managed to get it to £510 which was much more in line with the pro-rated use. They refunded the breakdown cover as I’d never used it and they didn’t want to provide it as a standalone product for the 12 months I’d been charged for.

And Macan price is what double or tripple of that 420d? To me BMWs just getting to expensive to insure, if this was 30-40k yeah I can understand them prices but 10k car cost nearly 1k to insure no chance.

Just to update this; my renewal has come through from Chris Knott and it's gone up £100 to £479... Fully comp, 14years NCB protected, no claims, all mods declared, 6k miles, social use only etc

Did some price comparison checks on the usual sites; couldn't get lower than £1100...

Makes you wonder how the feck they come up with these prices?!

Well they couldn't beat Admiral and just finished conversation with them regards running quote, so in my case they not cheaper.

They're another that wouldn't even quote me...

No idea why but they, DL and another I can't remember wouldn't even quote. Maybe due to 'modifications' etc

I've been with CK for years now; they've done well for me more so with my Jap import E39s and agreed valuations etc

This insurance business is absolutely crazy. Just doesn't make sense if you ask me.

I'm dreading our renewal in August. The slaughter on the Vegas roads this year has got to the point where a week without a reported fatal would be considered a conspiracy of silence by the police and media. If it's not drunks, it's racing, apparently suicidal pedestrians, or speeding motorcycles losing control or just plain running into stuff. As a city full of people from other places, we have every bad driving habit from around the world. This year, it really shows.

I just ran a quote for a £150k+ 992 Turbo S with 8k/annum expecting some crazy figures but a number of insurers (e.g. Admiral) came back in the region of £650… not buying it just yet but interested to see if the insurance would force me into a more sensible car… you just can’t second guess what they will quote from one year to the next…

All I can say is that I can but dream of such low insurance renewal costs.

My insurance premium in 2022 was £870 which rose to £1350 in 2023 [430d with no mods, 14000 miles pa plus business mileage, 9+ years protected NCD], the only difference was that in 2022 I was hit from behind and whilst the insurance company recovered all their costs from the other drivers insurance company my renewal still increased, but then again so has everyone elses. Admittedly I knocked a cyclist off their bicycle in 2021.

All I know is that when I retire [in 4 years if you listen to the wife or 7 years for the state pension] I won't be able to afford to insure a BMW 4 series convertible.

I'm with your wife

and of course it goes up when you retire because your drive more in the day and you are old....

I assume you either dont have great occupation description or a poorly rated postcode, I think I suffer from both too!

isleaiw1 my wife will hit 60 in three years time, so that's her plan for retirement and I reached the 60 yr old milestone last month, but still sort of enjoy working though my tolerance of working with my colleagues reduces daily.

I've stated my occupation as Sales Engineer, though a blind guess Estimator would be a fairer description and we live in NW London, which I guess are high risk catagories.

I'm 60 this month, my other half is 58 later this year.... and sometimes enjoy working but less tolerant of some of the people I have to put up with (colleagues are the less problematic element as I have to comms with generally disgruntled guests who sometimes are just taking the p***)

Hertfordshire and working in the hotels (licensed) trade kills mine!
