My gf and I compete constantly about who's smarter/better, and when it comes to anything mechanical or technical, I always 'win'

But when it comes to things around the house... like knowing how to do basic stuff like cooking laundry etc, knowing what this is and what that spice is, I lose bad....

well, not really. the pussy of the car would be the fuel pump because logically it works out. And the exhaust is the ass because once again, logically it works out. but its ok, you dont need to go in detail with your girl.
