Actually I'll never understand why MB nor BMW make a mini-van. Other companies like Honda, Toyota and Chrysler sell a bazillion of them. I'm sure there are lots of snooty soccer mom's that want a minivan and would prefer the star or roundell on the front of it.

damn, i just finish reading all of these... first BMW and MB are two completely different thing

BMW is for the Driver, I own a 335i 07' as you drive you feel the road and you are connnected to the road, but for the passenger it's a pain in the ass all the shaking, bump, not so good,

My mom owns a S600 and it's freakin nice, when you drive it, all you really do is just press pedal and turn no shaking and bumps and the suspension is super but on the other way, it's pointless to drive if you are just pressing the pedal.... once i was driving it i almost felt like sleeping... not good driving it. when you sit in the rear seat, then it's another thing all the quiteness and all the comfort, you won't feel a thing, and no bump no shaking, feels just like you are at home.

So as I said: BMW lets you feel why it is a BMW when you drive it not sitting in it.

MBZ lets you feel why it is a MBZ when you sit in it not driving it.

hahaha anyway, hopes you guys like my report on both cars

oh my god the old c class was horid...it sucked just like the new one only the new one has a much much better body and interior is in another league.... the bmw owns the small sedan 3 and somewhat the five but mercedes owns with the s and the amgs are just insane and priced accordingly... oh and i drive a 335 and vbought for my parent meaning i choose payed deposit and picked up my parentscars... i have driven them all for thousands of miles just drove a 750il and my dads old 2002 s55 with the smaller 55 engine is a much better car the new ones including our new s63 just killed it and the 2003 s55 with the larger engine was the most that felt closest to a smaller car though all felt like they thought they were smaller get it....with that said that is the s class... i would take almost any other bmw class over the mercs besides the S..even the s550is just spectacular to drive...but guys the 335 dominates the 350 and the m3 is just a cut above the c63..maybe not in raw power but in passion and overall engineering....you have to look at more than just one thing...they both offer different things for different drivers and ages..mercedes targets an older crown one that doesn't really care about speed as they do luxery and ride quality...the old c class was just a horid car..we have had countless for loaners and still have one on the drive for the 2003 that was getting snows balanced...it just doesn't compare to any bmw...there is just too much on the table for these 2 companies in particular to just say one is better....bmw is overall much better but things mercedes offers in terms of what amg offers is just incredible esp the raw power....but you know on the TOP gear track the sl65 was the same time around the track as the current m5...so what does that say...oh and the sl65 has the same interior exterior as the sl55 just diff wheels and diff engine...the car is all wrong it has way way too much torque...for 190k i would have thought they would have made the suspension and torque and better wheels tires...they just added fancier wheels and bigger engine trans into a chassis and suspension that have no business being there...the cars power is basically useless because it has soo much torque....you have to take turns sooo slow... that being said the car is just an insane missile in the straights.. it's tough because mercedes works better in the real world and bmw on the track...they are both awesome and have there faults!!!!! different strokes for diff folks!!!!

Gee, it's fun to see these ancient threads dredged up again. As for the question above.... they do. Do you think anyone buys the MB M Class to venture off-road with a canoe strapped to the roof? How about X5 owners? Ever see one of them surf fishing on a rocky beach? Of course not... they are the luxury mini-vans for the snooty soccer moms.

you still have to remember that innovation comes with reliability and lately mercedes have been equivalent to the legs of a pedestal.

You're so last generation on the Mercedes. Even my old MY06 W211 E55 has not been to the dealership or shop for once except for oil changes.

The new W221 S-Class and 216 CL had one of the best initial build quality.

An SUV and a mini-van are not the same thing. I know lots of people with Mercedes-Benz and BMW cars but who want a true mini-van for its vast amount of storage and easy ingress/egress. These MB and BMW owners also have Honda Odysseys and Toyota Siennas.

I'm sure if we were designing our own car, it would be a blend of many brands and wouldn't be a blind loyalty to any one brand.

As well, where you drive has a huge impact on what you drive. Wide open smooth roads in a southern climate with very little traffic would yield a very different dream car than in a pot-hole infested, stop and go congested traffic snowy climate.

Personally I would like a mid-size 2-door coupe (about the size of a 5 series or E-Class) with all the luxury features of an LS460 or S-Class, the handling of a Porsche Cayman but the comfort of a Mercedes at the press of a button. I would want the available take-off speed of a 911 Turbo but the fuel mileage of a Prius. I want an all-wheel-drive system for the snow and rain but none of the understeer characteristics when it's nice and dry out. I want it to be the safest vehicle to drive in the event of an accident and I want it to be more reliable than the best Lexus.

Since that thing isn't being built....I gotta look for compromises.

Funny fact is, just a comparison of M5 and CLS63 is not everything. AMG basically outbests M on the exterior design in the first place

Are you serious?

This is CLS63 AMG, and how can you even call this ugly?

this just reminds me of Lexus GS or Hyundai Elantra

Correct me if I am wrong.
MLK isn't out yet. You sure the X5 is comparable to the ML? Seems more aking to the GL if you ask me.

Hence his inclusion of the word "subjective". I find both cars equally pleasing to the eye (well, at least the post-facelift 5 series).

MLK isn't out yet I guess.
GL ( at least the previous generation) is like a tank more than a SUV though.

Again, I'd say that's a subjective matter. I can aska whole bunch of people what they think about Bimmers, and it's not all hate. I think most of the hating spawns from enthusiasts of the auto world.

I know many people that really like the 6 series (myself included), the 5 series not so much. The 7 series doesn't seem to garner much of a reaction anymore (didn't see that coming five years ago). The Z coupe seems to be a pretty good looking car from what people I've asked have said. I love it. The X3 is the one car I think is just hands down ass ugly.
