Carfax report...is something odd here?

I am thinking about purchasing a 2003 M3 vert and I got the carfax report today, but for some reason something doesn't seem right but I can't put my finger on it. It just seems that the dates and milage entries don't make sense in terms of driving pattern, and it says the car was registered as black....but its sliver. and what does it mean when a car was registered as a corporate vechicle? Was this car ACTUALLY owned by one person?

What do you guys think?

It may be a case where someone has cloned the VIN of that vehicle and put it on another stolen car. I had a terrible saga with my CLK55 AMG due to some crook cloning my VIN and using it on a stolen car in Chicago. That car was black, mine was silver. The crook apparently destroyed the stolen car, reported being carjacked, collected his insurance payoff, and then disappeared before the police caught on to him. Meanwhile, I was holding a car that had a VIN reported as stolen, and had all kinds of crazy, conflicting title reports on the Carfax. The VA state police investigated and found that the color of the stolen car in Chicago did not match the factory paint code in the VIN. It took forever for me to get Carfax to clean up their report so that I could trade the CLK for my 335. I only tell you this to advise you that Carfax cannot be trusted 100%, largely due to VIN cloning--it's becoming a big and fairly easy criminal scam. You should check the VIN plate on the car you are looking at and make sure it shows no signs of tampering, and have the authorities check the paint code in the VIN to see if it matches the car's actual color. Good luck.

i'm surprised the car went to auction, although i don't know much about these kinds of matters, but if the car was in pretty good condition dealers normally try and sell them again, esp if the car is desirable.

it could be that the dealer just had too many e46's tho, possible. when i traded in my car the dealer's lot was full of used e46s and so they were gonna auction off my car.
