Carpet salt stains

Hi all,

What would be a good product to get rid of the salt crud stuck on the interior carpet from winter?

i asked about this too.. someone told me to use some All Purpose cleaner and soak the carpet with it and then use a brush to agitate it a bit and then vacuum it out..

Mix of half water, half vinegar. But it will smell for a week.

Results using vinegar and warm water

Agree - I live in WI, and after a worse winter than normal, had salt stains on black carpet of my 06 330i. I tried this, and it worked. Applied 50/50 mix using a terry towel, then used a brush to scrub the area. After a couple of rounds, it came out!

I completely feel your pain being in Chicago this whole winter! Water is key here to break down the salt stains so using it with vinegar, steam cleaner, or simply spraying alone then agitating will help. You may need some patience as it may take a few rounds of going over it, but it should yield good results. Make sure to dry everything well as you don't want to create mold and horrible smells later on.

Let us know how it goes.

The smells and mold is what I'm worried about also. Would a steam cleaner work better or just the same than the vinegar? I bought myself some carpet cleaner and planned on doing this soon using the spray and brush and vacuum method. Do you think that will work effectively?

It's been a tough winter in Toronto.
