Official iPhone Data Plan!

http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/ptech/0....ap/index.html
http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/ptech/0....ap/index.html

• Wireless service for the iPhone: $59.99, $79.99 and $99.99
• $59.99 monthly plan includes 450 minutes of voice time
• $79.99 plan includes 900 minutes, $99.99 has 1,350 minutes
• All 3 offer 200 text messages; there is a $36 activation fee

Adjust font size:
CUPERTINO, California (AP) -- AT&T Inc. and Apple Inc. on Tuesday said wireless service for the iPhone will range from $59.99 per month to $99.99 per month.

The highly anticipated gadget retails for $499 for a model with 4 gigabytes of storage and $599 for one with 8 gigabytes. It's slated to go on sale at 6 p.m. local time Friday at Apple and AT&T retail stores as well as Apple's Web site.

The $59.99 monthly plan includes 450 minutes of voice time; a $79.99 plan includes 900 minutes; and a $99.99 plan includes 1,350 minutes. All three offer 200 text messages, unlimited data services, minutes that roll over month-to-month and mobile-to-mobile calls. There also is a $36 activation fee.

Apple claims the iPhone -- which combines the functions of a cell phone, iPod media player and Web-surfing device -- will be easier to use than other smart phones because of its unique touch-screen display and intuitive software that allows for easy access to voice mail messages, the Internet, and video and music libraries.

But skeptics wonder whether even the most innovative product can live up to the iPhone's lofty expectations. Scrutiny of the product is so great that any small disappointment could send Apple's stock plunging, analysts say

I hope this is true. Because before they made it seem as if you had to sign up again or atleast add on and get charges so much shit again.

Still means I need to drop 500 for a phone though.

Wait....it states you need a new 2 year activation. Also the ipod function doesnt work without being activated. That is retarded.

+1 on Greeney's post. 100% correct, confirmed by Cingular.

New Customers require a 2 year activation. It doesn't say anything about current subscribers requiring a 2 year activation.

Activation...

Also, just so you know.. activation is required before you can even use the iPhone as an "iPod". I found that out the hard way.

i think you guys are missing the fine print right below it. another user pointed it out. says "minimum 2 year blahblah AND activation fee" REQUIRED to activate phone's features. i'm pretty sure that means new customers need to sign up for a 2 year agreement, and existing customers need to extend their agreement by 2 years, but in order to accommodate the data, they are giving you the option to keep your current voice plan and just activate data, etc.

thats the way i read it. just read the fine print right below the plans .jpg that was posted above.

Nope, the local ATT rep said current customers just need to at the data plan.
And phone will be fully activated. The activation is done on iTunes not at Apple store, not at ATT store and not through phone.

ATT rep said they wont even be opening the phones to insert sim card, just sell you the iphone and thats it.(prolly ment to make the line of people move a lot faster) cuz activation takes like 40mins at least.

I am not sure how it would work with me. I just have the 450AT/rollover plan without data, but my contract expired in 4/06, but I have just kept using the phone and paying the same rate I always have.
