GM's U.S. Opel - Buick Regal GS AWD - is raising the bar for U.S. cars

The Buick Regal GS AWD has to be one of the best U.S. cars currently available IMO.

And it's blast to drive on ice. Did I mention the standard electronic LSD?

2014 Buick Regal GS AWD – Review and Winter Road Test

Quote:
MIRABEL, QUEBEC — “When better cars are built, Buick will build them” is an advertising slogan that goes back roughly one hundred years. One better car coming from Buick is the 2014 Regal GS AWD.

This clearly isn’t your father’s Oldsmobile, or even Buick for this matter. From the driver’s seat, I would say it’s the best-handling sedan to come from GM. This may be partly due to its German heritage: it began life as an Opel Insignia and the first wave of Regals sold in the U.S. were made in Germany although production has since shifted to Oshawa, in Ontario, Canada.

As part of a mid-life refresh, the Regal received a revised grill, LED daytime running lights, and new more aggressive LED taillights, as well as the new IntelliLink infotainment system that features an 8” color touch screen….

You can indeed get it with a 6-speed and it is a fantastic car. I just wish GM had gone the distance with it and given us the Opel's 321hp turbo-six rather than the weaker Buick version's 2.0 turbo-four which has now been cut down to 259hp (the same as the base model's). Luckily the AWD drivetrain is now available with the 6-speed manual, though it is still FWD biased. I drove the 2013 version and it was impressive to be sure (interior is fantastic). Just don't understand why us Yanks get the shaft in terms of engine choice?

The 2.8T V6 is an ancient engine, guzzles gas, etc. Also, if I am remembering correctly is not that reliable. Quite a few people who own a SRX with the 2.8T has had issues with them.

My main point is that if you are going to bring the OPC Insiginia over here as the "Sports" oriented GS model, give it more than a 259hp turbo-four. Hell, the 3.6 DI V6 out of the ATS/CTS would've been a better choice IMO...
