Time for a new laptop?

Here is what I want...

-Lightening fast Web surfing
-I look at photos and occasional video, but no real multimedia editing
-I use MSFT office a lot.
-I want my browsers and apps to load LIGHTENING FAST
-I want it to be secure
-Size is not a big concern
-I want a VERY sharp screen.

Suggestions????

Should I wait for Windows Vista?

I disagree - the 17" macbook pro is amazingly fast for everything a computer user would need - except maybe photoshop or MS office, but with boot-camp you can dual boot into XP and the duo core macbook's run windows faster than any other notebooks out there.

Have you seen the intel iMacs? They're totally kickass. . .

I was going to wait for Windows Vista but I couldn't stand my slow computer and tiny crt any longer. I just ordered a Dell desktop yesterday after mine lasted a good 6 years. It was $1800 with tax and shipping was free. Came with a 20" ultrasharp widescreen lcd and a 2 year warranty. It says it is Windows Vista capable so I can always add it on later. shhh my Windows XP isn't legit anyways because I lent someone my install CD and they lost it.

I'm an IT guy like a lot of peopl here and this is what i would say.
- Depends on the price you are willing to pay.
- Get Fast Ram, and dont get less then 1Gb ( 1024mb)
- Get the hard drive upgrade to a 7200rmp HD.
- CPU upgrades arent all that necessary, but i would recomend the new Intel Core Duo.
- Web pages to load Fast - That depends on your internet conenction, not so much the PC. Get DSL or a Cable Modem if you dont already have one.
Lastly, I love Dell's because they are easy, not Bloated liek Sony's or IBM's and they are very inexpensive. ALso, check out the following Web sites for deals. If you go Dell, their deals sometimes will only be posted hours before they expire, so be ready to buy As Soon as they are posted. http://www.dealmein.net http://www.slickdeals.net

If you are an IT guy then you should know the repair rate on Dell's are much higher the sony or ibm. im not just saying that because I work for IBM. Sony repair rate over a 1 year span is less the 2%, Dell is somewhere around 8-9%...

Is this offer valid for every forum member? I'm considering a T60 (T60p 2623D8U to be exact).

I love my IBM T42, but there are other excellent choices. It really depends on what you want, a very personal decision.

I'm very happy with my T42. It will fly with me to Munich in July to pick up my brand spanking new 330i.
