Two things that have me really worried

I've had my 328i for about 6 months now. I detailed it last weekend and I noticed two things I've never noticed before.

1) There seems to be a missing piece of rubber on the top of the windshield. I've never noticed this before. As you can see in the picture it is currently raining and I'm worried that water might be able to get into the cabin. But it hasn't before and this may have been this way when I bought the car. Is there a piece missing? Where can I buy it and how can I replace it? Also, is this an indication that the original windshield was removed at some point?

2) I noticed when detailing the car that there a MANY tiny chips in the paint on the hood. Nowhere else but the hood has this issue and the little chips are EVERYWHERE. Not just toward the front where rocks could chip it but also toward the windshield. Is this a paint defect or has the hood been repainted in the past? Could this indicate the car was in an accident before I bought it? The carfax is clean. How can I fix the chips rather than painting the entire hood?

Thanks!

The rubber strip for the windshield is actually just cosmetic - you don't need to worry about leaks. You can purchase and install a new strip yourself.

As for the hood chips, they happen. I've got quite a few on my car. My detailer recommends Dr. Color Chip, but I haven't tried it. I patched mine up with the BMW touch up paint (base and clear), then had my detailer do some paint correction polishing and then OptiCoat.

Hey Op, thats nothing really for paint chips, the front of my Acura looks like its been sandblasted. Thats why I had invisible bra installed on my E92 when I first got it. No chips on that baby!
